Graphics cards: AMD performing much worse?

(Matuno) #1

Hi guys,

Ever since I started playing this game I’ve been rather appalled at how a game that isn’t even that graphically heavy runs so poorly on my gaming rig. I’m watching streams and videos of players that are able to both record and stream a game that runs much smoother than how I experience it.

I’m running with an AMD Radeon R9 290 Tri-X, a hefty card that barely fits in a medium-sized tower. Many games like Battlefield 4 can run at maximum detail and can even be streamed or recorded at a high, stable FPS.

This game however seems to bypass my graphics card with nearly everything, and my Intel i5 4690 @ 3.5Ghz gets stressed to its maximum capacity while Dirty Bomb is running. I’m using a config that reduces as much detail as possible and get 200+ FPS with it, but the game still feels choppy, slightly laggy.

I’m just wondering, do other AMD users have the same problem? And you nVidia users, does your CPU get taxed that much too? How does the overall performance of the game feel to you?

My asus 290x dcuii runs around 140-150 fps my kids runs great on their 7870hd

I’d install msi afterburner and check for thermal throttling also do a complete Uninstaller of the drivers and reinstall

No problem on my all AMD rig fXx6@4.4… 7970

What’s your CPU load during play? Maxed out?

Welp, I have a potato (HD 6870 Black Edition) and I can run the game at 60/100 FPS, it’s not very stable but it’s playable.

Also, I play with the lowest settings and in 1080p.

My CPU load is pretty high too, but… Another potato :v (i5 760 2.8Ghz 4 Cores)

65% all cores…because the unreal engine uses CPU power more than GPU.

Odd, it’s always pushing 90+% on mine, I suspect it maxes out a lot too.

It’s just weird. Yes, it -shows- I have over 100 FPS at all times, but it feels like much less, compared to other games that would be on the same FPS.

Probably frame time being high, i get that on certain games.

Games running with the unreal 3 engine seem to run poorly on AMD graphic cards.

My FPS ranges between 30ish all the way up to 70+. CPU and GPU usage hovers around 25%. Frame times show a lot of spikes usually up to 50ms.

Intel i7 2600K @ 4,5 Ghz
AMD Radeon 7970
both water cooled and game is running on an SSD.

1920x1200 all settings on low
