[Gotta go Fast]Merc: Speed (Scout)

(CryoGX) #1

I’ve seen a form of this class in pretty much every character-based shooting game I’ve played, and I love the idea. Meant to be the fastest class in the game, and one of (if not the) the lightest, as well.

Alright, just mentioning “Scout” should already give everyone a good idea of what I’ll be talking about, so let’s get into what’ll make this guy unique.

Name: Speed(Working name, I guess)

Health: 70

Sprint Speed: 480/500(I like even hundred numbers but I’m not sure if this is taking it a bit too high)

Sex:Male (The fastest mercs currently ingame are all female at 90HP/450 speed, so shake it up a bit >:3)

Age:shrugs Young-ish? 20s-30s?

Class: Flanker + Delivery Boy

Roles: Offensive (Not assault, though). Flank and kill single targets and run away. Deliver objectives faster.

Appearance: Virtually armorless. Probably an aerodynamic skin-suit with a light hat at most. Basically, it will look absolutely obvious that this guy’s sacrificing his safety to go faster. There’s also what looks to be a really streamlined jet-pack on his back. Really light, but not really effective; enough to give him a small burst of speed.

Personality: Energetic, maybe a bit arrogant (not too much; enough to be humorous when addressing others). Impatient (obviously, I mean c’mon :3).

Loadout

Primary Weapon: Mini-Shotgun
-The whole case with this guy is being “Light and fast”. He’ll have enough damage to quickly kill someone and get the heck out before they retaliate and basically destroy him. So, the idea of the Mini-Shotgun would be, more accurate, just as powerful (if not slightly more), but less ammo and effective range than a regular shotgun. It might sound more OP than normal shotguns on paper, but remember the guy using this weapon. It’s designed to make it easier for him to run head-first into the danger zone, secure a kill (or two), and not have enough resources to stay in the battle without having to reload (which will leave him open to die if he doesn’t run).

Secondary Weapon: Pistol

Exclusive Ability: Boost Pack
-Dashes a short distance in the held direction (You can backstep as well, if you’re holding back) If used in the air, you’ll double jump (which will be slower and cover less distance horizontally than a dash) in your held direction instead. Has the lowest cooldown time of abilities currently ingame. (Maybe around 7 seconds?) Less effective and has a higher cooldown when using while holding an objective. Passively activates on big falls to prevent fall damage and puts the ability on a shorter cooldown.

Regular Ability: None
-Yeeeeeeeeeeeeep. I don’t really feel like this guy needs to benefit to the group outside of his speed. That’s why there’s his…

Passive: Fast
-Similar to the Engineers’ passives, which enable them to plant, defuse and repair much faster, this passive will enable Speed to pick-up (instantly, in like one little tap, since pick-up is already so fast), deliver, and return objectives of this type (Data-cores, EMP Charges, Drug Samples, etc) faster than other mercenaries. He’ll kinda need that speed if he’s going to have to stop moving and leave him and his 70HP open to getting rekt.

Overall Philosophy:
So far with Dirty Bomb, I really enjoy Kira for her speed (because free rotation merc :D) and use that to run in and ninja-deliver objectives. However, I understand that she’s not optimized for that, since she’s a mid-range support (basically I lose close-range battles a lot, but it’s still fun to go fast!), so I’m essentially only contributing my speed in a sense when I do something like that (It’d probably be a better idea to buy Proxy and do that, but I’m saving my creds). So I thought, why shouldn’t there be a merc that centers completely around that? I mean, you already have your Engineers who do all of your techy stuff faster, but why not a fast-master who specializes in actually delivering the other kinds of objectives? Someone who the team would actually rely on to pick up the objective, sneak quickly past the front lines, and deliver the dang thing under their noses, while the team simply keeps everyone else busy? I haven’t seen a single class like this on the wiki, and no current class plays like what I’m trying to go for. Proxy is probably the closest to what I’m talking about because she has a shot-gun, but she is more supportive in her abilities than what I’m going for, here. Speed’s meant to contribute by taking the objective and running all in, without waiting for your teammates to try to push the enemies back. It’ll offer good disruption to current playstyles I see, and will force people to be more vigilant of their objectives (instead of wandering off and trying to get kills in an objective mode). Speed will much moreso punish teams who fail to prioritize their objectives, and capitalize on that. He’ll be getting Gauntlet badges out the wazoo.

On top of that, his ability is meant to give him more speed and mobility as to dodge fire altogether, since he’s crazy-squishy compared to everyone. (Seriously: 20 HP below the current lowest HP; he’ll die in a heartbeat) If he waltzes into a really well-guarded area, the team will be able to shoot him down, and he’ll have NO way of retaliation, assuming they’re all at decent range. His only option then will be to run away, and without a dodge move to pull him out of battle, he’ll be mincemeat in half a second. I want him to be “high-risk, high-reward”, not “high-risk, guaranteed-to-die-on-the-absolute-first-small-mistake” (high skillcap, with a bit of room for error, but not too much).

Also in Execution mode (or when going for kills), he’d be the type to deliberately run around their group, dodging fire, getting behind them and shooting them in the face. Sort of similar to an assassin, like Phantom, but faster and completely visible the entire time. Or even, he could be a distraction, running INTO their group, dodging fire like a mad-man (one dash won’t really dodge much, but it’ll delay his death) while everyone focuses him, and he can have his teammates shoot everyone down for him.

Tell me what you guys think of this! Really hope you like it!

I was really skeptical at first, because I was thinking about how Proxy fills this role pretty well already, but it seems like you’ve thought this through pretty well. It might be necessary to re-balance some of the already speedy classes, since their speed is one of their main advantages and it gets diminished slightly when a class like this gets put in.

Still, good idea, hopefully the devs can do something with this idea in the future. I really like the jetpack idea, good thinking on that one.
