Got a Brink Clan? Compete in the Holiday Ladder!

A new blog entry has been added:

[drupal=904]Got a Brink Clan? Compete in the Holiday Ladder![/drupal]

Since few things embody Christmas like clan matches and fragging, the Brink Clans & Tournaments website now features Holiday Ladders for your clan to enter. Here’s how it works: Running until 8 January, each clan participating in the ladder can issue match challenges to any of the other participating clans. Matches are 3 on 3, with Brink’s entire map pool available to choose from when putting together a match challenge. Winning a match increases your ladder ranking, while losing decreases it. At the conclusion of the ladder, the top 3 clans will receive a special trophy to show off in their clan profile (along with the associated bragging rights, of course).
The Holiday Ladders are now available for each platform (and clan region) on the Events page of the Brink Clans & Tournaments website. If you’re the leader of your clan, you can enter it into a ladder right then and there:

Gotta admire your optimism. ESL couldn’t PAY teams to compete in their compeitions, how many teams are gonna compete this I wonder?

I hope they can get more then 3 clans playing on each platform.

also, 3v3? So teams will consist of Medic, Engineer, and Soldier? Because we already know how useless Operatives are.

Depends on objective. There are plenty of times when you would double up on one class. Personally, I think the jury is still out on the operative, but don’t want to get involved in theorycrafting on the forums so I’ll leave it at that.

3v3 and 2v2 work quite well in Brink, in my opinion. Its not the game Brink was designed to be…but it is fun nonetheless.

A 3v3 match stretches the limit of what allows for actual teamwork, but it’s also the right decision. Fielding 5v5 with the current playerbase would be way too difficult.

A match has alreay been played in the holiday ladder but they haven’ counted it in the ladder for some reason.

(sanDIOkan) #10

wow 10 clans in brink !!! 40 persons will play this game!!!
its a record!

(tangoliber) #11

8 matches currently scheduled for the PS3 Holiday Ladder. Not bad.

(zenstar) #12

4 teams can produce 8 matches. That’s not terribly active.

Edit: 4 teams can produce 8 matches without any duplication of matches is what I mean. 2 teams can produce 8 matches ofc.

(Attackcobra) #13

Actually there are 8 different clans producing those 8 matches.

(tangoliber) #14

Yea, there are 9 teams with matches scheduled on PS3. 8 matches scheduled on the Holiday ladder, and 2 scheduled on the main ladder.

Even if there were only 4 teams, 8-10 matches a week is still pretty good. Depends on what you consider good or not. I’m not really sure what the standard is, but for a game that is almost a year old and for along time only allowed people to play with friends, I think its not bad. There were 6 or more matches scheduled for last Sunday, but they got deleted when the server crashed.

Also, “not bad” does not mean “terribly active.” It just means “not bad.”

people can buy brink again for 5 dollar on steam (steam holiday sale) . At the moment there are 50 people in a server, so maybe we will see more people again <3

Wolfenstein 2009 still has 10 people online after 2 years. I hope brink will have a bit more, but after 6 months only having 50 people online with all the sales etc is kinda bad. Seems like wolfenstein 2009 will even outlive brink.

All I hope is that Brink manages to have 5-10 people online 5 years from now.

But, hopefully, those people will play No Bot, Stopwatch servers by then. Having to play with bots is the biggest downside to playing Brink on PC.

I would be amazed if people would still play brink after a couple of years. I can’t imagine playing those maps for too long with the cutscenes you can’t turn off.

Anyway I remember rhado comming to crossfire and everyone was bitching about wolfenstein 2009, seems like that game was even better than brink. Who would have thought that.

(gold163) #18

I friggin hate the cutscenes. Completely kills the flow of a match. Not fluid at all. Fun the first time around in singleplayer but then it gets really irritating to watch them every time.

(tangoliber) #19

I don’t like the cutscenes, but I can deal with them. Also, after the most recent patch, they started using other player’s characters in the cutscenes for me. I don’t know if that always happened for other people or not… I only ever saw my own character in the background of the scenes… but seeing other people’s characters play the dialogue roles is kinda funny now.

I’ll still be playing in a few years if I can get matches. (Again, hoping that people will play no bot servers by then. I can deal with the bots now, since the games feel up to 16 people pretty fast…but if there are only 6 people online, then there should be a 3v3 human match…not 6 humans and 12 bots.)

I’ve had times where I was frustrated with Brink, and times where I fell back in love with it. I sometimes get burned out with it, usually because of the guns…but then a few weeks later, it clicks and I play the hell out of it for a while. Personally, I can deal with the lottery spread combat, because there are other aspects that I love about Brink and can’t get from many other games. And the fact remains that the last 100 hours or so of Brink have been a lot more entertaining than the first 150 hours. For me, the game does get better over time, part of that has to due with people learning more effective styles of playing offense, which has made the game much less defensive than it was in the first several months.

Great succes, a total of 22 (most of them on the pc) matches have been played in a period of a month across all the platform. Lets compare that with WOLF:ET which had 56 matches on sunday alone (counting only the matches on gamestv.org).
