love the visuals so far, yet…
will there be gore in brink…?

(Floris) #2

There will be blood at least.

(tokamak) #3

There will be subtle gore.

I’d guess Bethesda is aiming for a Teen Rating so: “Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.”

I hope there will at least be some blood.

No it will most likely be rated M.
The only T rated FPS I can think of is CoD 2, which is how old?

Hell, even Halo is M and there’s minimal gore in that.

(RosOne) #6

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars has a Teen Rating, id’s Rage will have a Teen Rating*. Of course, I might be wrong but judging from the gameplay videos Bethesda is aiming for a T Rating.

Just speculating.

* Yes, there are a lot more M Rated FPS’s than T Rated

Minimal blood in ETQW meant blood on the Strogg’s spikes - that’s ridiculous!

I’m no fan of gore but there have to be some blood effects when shooting someone and it has been said they’ll be in the game. You can see them in the gameplay videos as well.

(tokamak) #8

Indeed, blood is also a gameplay component as it reveals hits on not only your target, but on other players as well (which you don’t have hit sounds for).

(stealth6) #9

couldn’t they make some kind of system like in unreal, where you have a tickbox in options to turn on goremode.
Or that you have to enter your date of birth during install.

I love gore, love shooting off limbs heads etc… bascially the only reason I bought GTA acting like an ass and shooting everybody.

I do not think you need Gore in a game. ET and QW were fine without it. I do not really mind to be honest, it will not affect my ability to purchase the game and if it is included I will just turn it off anyway.

They may not include gore though in order to get a lower rating, specially for the consoles as the Xbox 360 and PS3 attract a younger demograph compared to the PC. Although I do not really know how many parents actually check game ratings when purchasing games for their kids.

As for knowing when you have scored a hit thats what hit sounds are for.

It made the perfect pf / grenade / artillery / airstrike that much more satisfying. ETQW on the other hand felt a bit too sterile in my opinion with no blood at all.

The ragdoll effects should be a worthy replacement for gore in Brink though. Explosives hurling enemies through the air are awesome!

I forgot about the blood left by dead bodies as a result of explosions in ET. I agree with you about ETQW, ET was still very restrained compared to other FPS games though. That was my point really you don’t need lots of blood to make a game good, less is more. ET has great gameplay and the little gore it had made it better.

I expect Brink to get the Teen rating anyway, I think SD and Bethesda will want to market the game to the widest audience as to increase sales.

There should be an option to turn these sort of settings on/off so that people can choose. I personally would like to turn most of this off so I have the least distractions whilst playing.

Blood spatters on walls, floors are great as an observer playing can tell from which direction his team-mate got shot. This forensic element can sometimes play a huge part in the more tactical shooters like Raven Shield.

(Nail) #14

It’s a bit of extra fun in single player, but I always turn it off (if possible) in multi player

yup. shooting off actually body parts… is darn good.

(SockDog) #16

L4D2 nuff said.

(tokamak) #17

Duh, L4D2 is a friggin horror game, Brink shouldn’t stoop down to that level.

(NoFace) #18

Leaving an infected running at you with a whole in its stomach can be very satisfying in L4D2. However I presonaly could not really see that typ of gore working to well in Brink unless alot of work went it to it not look as over the top as L4D dose. It would just look a bit out of place besides L4D2 droped ragdolls :frowning:

(Mustang) #19

I think they aren’t saying that much gore should be in Brink
But just that in general it is a lot of fun

(DarkangelUK) #20

Did they?
