"Good Medics are Gods Amongst Men"

Phoenix was the only medic I wanted in to my squad and especially I wanted to bring him in competitive matches. Working as well as I expected.

Phoenix is like a running heal station: the heal is where Phoenix is.
Charge doesn’t take that long and when team is sticking close, whole team gets some heal.
As a support player I don’t mind if I get less kills, because keeping my team mates alive is more important for me. Making sure that engineer has some cover while fixing the EV and bringing people back to life is precious.
And if I happen to be dead on the ground and another medic in the team is busy and others are distracted, I can get up by myself.

I’d really whish the old-skool rambo medics would just go Fragger. It would make the experience so much more enjoyable. But I guess those types of players don’t have a lot of faith in their teammates…and/or are having troubles adapting to the new healing mechanic meta.

If you can’t play the role of the conservative medic, DON’T GO MEDIC!

As a side-note, it’s interesting how in terms of gameplay and style, the closest thing DB comes to old-skool rambo medic style of play is Sparks, yet most rambos go Sawbonez, which, with his lousy self-heal and sustainability rate, and huge single-target healing, is the worst choice for rambo medic and the biggest waste of a medic (doing it rambo style) in the game.

I consider myself a rather…twisted medic.

“Alright, so you’re to go out there and die for me, but I’ll revive you so it’s ok. It’s called progress.”

And this is why I just play Assault mercs instead…

(ThatRandomGuy) #25

Wait, you get that with Sawbonez players? In my experience, it’s mostly Auras that are unreliable. I’ve seen them referred to as Schrodinger’s Medic…and have had them run right over me straight into gunfire as someone was taking fire trying to help me up.
OOOH YEA…

Auras pretty much place their thing on spots so i can just run to it and heal myself…

But these kinda sawbonz? THOSE ARE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE ! Most of the time i spam vote kick on them and sometimes everyone votes YES !

I normally main Sparks as a medic, telling someone to hit the floor instead sounds better since I can’t heal everyone to full health in a short time while reviving is much faster.

I have my Rambo moments while sawing bonez, but they’re rare and they’re opportunistic gambles that could make or break the team. Like healing/reviving everyone I can, then running around the other side of the rock on Chapel to pick their Sparks or heal station, or cover our deliverer.

And that’s why, as useful as I think she is, I don’t play Sparks. I view revives as a contingency plan, not the general medical practice. I’m also the kind of guy that likes to rally Fraggers and Hammers around me to make offensive pushes, so 'Bonez or Phoenix (who I can’t wait to try) for me.

Plus, you know, my aim kinda sucks with the revive gun.
Every once in a while I’ve been the only medic in 8-player team so I’ve been really busy trying to keep everybody alive.
So I bought Phoenix and there have been some unsatisfied patients because I didn’t give a fully charged pulse for a single person. At this point I’ve explained them that I’m not gonna waste a full charge for one person, go to others and tell them to wait 10 seconds before I can heal them.
Most of the time situation ends there/ somebody else goes medic as well but few times these people have thought that they’re the ace player of the team and that’s why should get a full charge. Needless to say that I’ve stopped reviving or healing those people which causes them to lose their cool completely. Zero regrets.
Sadly, many people, the self appointed team captain comes to mind, have their own idea how a merc is played. In a heavy firefight, does it make sense to stand there and charge up fully so you can both be dead? And of course, your in-game critic spares no invective for you.

When this happens, I just tell First admiral Tool, “if you think you can do a better job, then do it.” The team captain resumes playing sky hammer while intermittently offering unsolicited performance appraisals.

Medics can be one of the most powerful classes when deployed strategically.

That honey nut feelio when you carry your team of lemmings to victory as the Sparksomancer with around 8k score above anyone else. It’s good.

On the flipside there was also a Sparks today who decided that instead of reviving me, an engineer, who was next to the C4 that would blow in 10 seconds, they’d just casually saunter across half of Trainyard to try and defuse it themselves, and get blown up. A true star.

(Litego) #30

Rarely see medics unless I play one myself, but that’s probably cause of my playstyle of mostly pushing around for the flank, so I’m usually alone. But when I do have medics, it’s amazing!

(gg2ez) #31

I once witnessed a single Sparks get a K/D of 78/4, I doubt anyone in the team was downed for more than 2 seconds. It was amazing she/he revived like a demon and literally took down half the enemy team at once. Dodged bullets like a champ.

And from that point on, Admiral Tool doesn’t see any more of my health packs or defibrillators. He can go get his own fucking health and his own fucking revives if that’s how he feels. I’d rather tapcharge and have them use the after-rez invulnerability to get to cover anyway.
