I don’t get why everyone wants to complain about every tweak as if it’s game breaking. It’s like the troll train has entered the station. I think you guys did great with the current patch update! It seems that no matter what you do people are going to complain, and that really sucks =(
Good job splash damage!
That’s the beauty of opinions my friend, everyone is entitled to one but some pass their opinions off as fact which always brings out the trolls.
I laugh when I see all the complaints about Phantom now being “unplayable” and “useless”. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that people wouldnt be complaning anywhere near as much as they are now if Phantom had been in his current state when he was re-released just over a week ago. The only reason people think hes shit now is because he was the complete opposite to begin with.
It’s worth remembering that balancing a game with so many variables is a practically impossible task and attempting to do so is never going to make everyone happy.
Not sure if you finish off enemy players or not…
You know, quick swiping with a regular tiny little knife.
every server ive played in has people, you know people actually playing the game, laughing at how the forums are full of angry ghost boy owners posting about nerfs and the melee change.
no one cares except ghost boy owners. the nerf is fine and the melee change is fine
If it is the case that phantom was over-nerfed, then the player data will show that. He isn’t in a finalized state. I think adding a more difficult mechanic to melee aiming might have been the best way to balance him, as the issue with him was the very low level of skill needed to be relatively awesome with him. It was likely make melee damage lower, or make it harder to use.
Oh for the love of God. I’m quite tired of that excuse ‘‘very low level of skill needed to be relatively awesome with him’’, are you saying that other mercs required skilful play?
Mercs like Fragger and Nadder are and were far superior than him, you know why? Because they don’t have a ability that put them at risk, or even encourage taking risk ( talking about the melee ‘‘issue’’ with Phantom). Honestly if you get killed by melee you 100% deserve it if the enemy could get that close then there is nothing a gun couldn’t do.
Please stop using that excuse when all of our merc ability are basically ‘‘press F, then click’’,
In my book going in melee range and take out your opponent require more skill than simply cooking a nade.
Choo choo!
It’s vocal minority, don’t worry. The forum has a nice helping of people who are pretty good at voicing their opinion and backing it with sound logic, as well.

Just a small question, when people were complaining about Phantom without proposing any decent suggestion on how to fix him, why wasn’t it the vocal minority?
People seem to apply that term only when it suits them.
They made completely useless a character that did well on low level pubs and was balanced in high level ones, they buffed the already best merc in the game, they ruined melees, they added annoying blood and muzzleflash that can’t be toggled off.
Tell me why i should be happy about any of those.

You make valid points.

He was too easy to play. He was a merc with average movespeed who could sprint with a melee weapon (making him faster than average) and r2 r1 almost any other merc in the game. It was MUCH easier to hit with melee attacks that gun someone down in terms of aiming skill. As to getting into melee range, his cloak made him harder to see and hit, and gave him the effective HP of a Rhino. A quick moving 1 or 2 hit killing rhino who had a smaller hit box, and was harder to see/hit. Add to this that 6 seconds after he dropped cloak he could re-cloak and get another 70ish effective hp added to him. And this is just considering an obvious direct charge, not playing a smarter ambush style like he is meant to be played.
I agree that in comp games with people all on mics he wasn’t so overpowered because players would watch all approaches and communicate well with each other, making it harder to sneak up and/or get into melee range. But in pub games with no communication or teamwork he was OP as fuck.
Instead of nerfing his damage, the are trying to make him harder to use. Making his melee require more target leading and his cloak require more planning. How well the current fixes will accomplish those goals remains to be seen since this patch has been out for all of a day now. If anything making him easier to see would be my main grief with the nerfs…
Every people have their own opinion. In my case I think that update was a failure. But I don’t dev bash because I think so, and I respect those who says otherwise. I may just leave a disagree (what I did here by the way) to make my opinion noticed but that’s all. I does not remove any reputation points, It’s harmless, it’s fine. If you think this update is successful, glad for you. You have the right to think that, and you have the duty to post it here ! Good feedback is always appreciated, and is as important as negative feedback. This is a beta game, it needs feedback. Actually, even non-beta games needs feedback.
However, it’s really annoying to see people telling that people that disagree with them are unskilled. Looks like it’s easier to trashtalk another user rather than bringing arguments and have a peaceful yet insightful conversation.
