Goldrush 2 by Freak Beta 1 Released

We would like to announce the first beta release of Goldrush 2 by Freak. In this version, tank barrier 2 and truck barrier 2 have both been removed, as well as both of the stationary mg42 guns. Balcony access has been added, as well as several new paths usable by both teams.

I am looking for some constructive feedback on how the gameplay has changed. Im not overly concerned with the looks right now, I will clean it up later.

There are a few minor texture bugs that will be fixed in the next version. This is simply the first playable beta test. Please post all comments and feedback in the forum thread for Goldrush 2.

Also, FPS is low due to the simple compile used, FPS will be better in the final release.

I played through it once, kinda thought there were too many halls and doors. I mean your taking doors that were previously unused and putting rooms behind them…how are players supposed to know that these doors are usable. Obviously this would solve itself after enough time…but, you get the point of what im saying. Im sure you know about the different bugs in terms of missing textures as well, so i wont comment on that. I like the idea of a second entrance to the bank, but it seems theres an excess of halls and tunnels around that area which just makes it more confusing than it needs to be. Of course this was my first impression of the map…

I havn’t looked at it and wont becvause I don’t have enough spare time but has anyone, other than myself, noticed that there where minimal doors to open in the standard maps. The only doors that where there were team doors. This increases the pace of the game and reduces confusion.

How many versions of Goldrush are we gonna end up with? Whatever happened to originality?

Sorry man, I dunno why you’re doin’ this. I’ve stopped playing for a while, but if I start playin’ again I’ll never play this map, and I hope it falls on its ass.

Nothing personal, but there are mappers here who are trying to create original maps for people to play, and making Goldrush2 is a slap in the face to all of their efforts.

Just my humble opinion.

Whats the legal deal with this?? Because the source was released with Radiant does that mean anyone can do this and release it?

The naming ‘goldrush 2’ is a bit cheeky too, surely goldrush 2 should be a different part of the town or a smiliarly designed map, calling these changes ‘goldrush 2’ is wrong, it should be named _TE for Tournament edition or something

changing stock maps is LAME, make your own maps + use your own ideas; i didn´t play it and perhaps i never will. sorry for my offense words :banghead:

i think i better comment on the actual map rather than how bad it is to make such a map,
i thought the secondary passages could do with widening a bit as one skilled person could prolly defend that too well apart from that its not bad but work on them passages.

also i found an area that you either decided not to icnlude or forgot about, its neer the mg door neer bank behind first blocked of door you see. PICS:

Goldrush 2 is a modified version of Goldrush with competition in mind. The changes I made were to make it mor bias for Allies.

chr1s, the map you are reffering to is not a release of my changes. There are several people with mapping ideas to change Goldrush.

My changes will be purely for the sake of competition and in no way a display of my pathetic mapping abilities.

Ive had feedback from alot of players who seem to be enjoying the changes. It has quicken the gameplay on the map.

Why don’t you take the tank out as well?

The problem with Goldrush was supposed to be the Bank Defence - how does removing tank barriers etc change that?

Apart from that, there are plenty of maps waiting for comps to pick up (and some comps have done), there is no need for an original to be tampered with like this.

The original Goldrush had a problem with full holds, Was to easy to defend. By Removing the 2nd tank barrier, you spead up the map. The new passages give more attack options to the allies.

Removing the tank would get rid of the map concept. Yes there are many customs waiting to be picked up, but you must realize competitiors are not wanting the 3 hour matches, therefore change was in order.

yes, I had done only a basic compile without -vis and -light in the first release, the next will be a larger compile. I was just wanting some feedback on the flow changes.

in case you get the mapping bug from doing this litle project i recommend always dong a full vis compile before releasing a version for the public. If people’s intial reaction to the first version they play is negative be it for fps issues or whatever it’s unlikely they will want to try the map again in the future. BTW when you do the final compile you should expect top have to leave it over night for the .bouce 8 to finish

also, i hope this map gets flushed down the toilet, goldrush.map is there to help you with problems and see how stuff is done, its gay that you took the map added a few doors and then hogged the credit :disgust:

Personally, I think that if members of the comp community want to try their hand at mapping, then hats off to them - I don’t see anything bad resulting from this. I don’t think any of the ones who are doing this have any intention or goal of saying “hey, look at this map I made”, rather, it’s an attempt at addressing some of the aspects of Goldrush that result in very very long matches.

i can’t understand why people get THAT pissed about modding goldrush. think of it like a patch, not a
new map. bani patched ET stock maps by changing / adding some script… does he claim fueldump
is HIS work? he patched it to some extent - but grush’s bank defense stage needs some patches
that can’t be done by simple scripts… that’s all.

(i still don’t like to see 5+ different mods popping up concurrently :confused: )

You might see 5+ goldrush mods pop up, but map selection is pretty darwinian - all but the best 1 or 2 are going to fall out pretty quickly

It’s not because I think the people are taking undue credit that I’m angry, it’s the fact that they are modding original maps for competition when there are already maps, made by the community, that are suitable for competition. If Goldrush results in long matches why not pick a different map for your match, or change its timelimit to 20 minutes?

Feck it I’m getting sick of the argument. If the mappers themselves don’t seem to care why should I…
