glitch on my map

(nOObCity) #1

brushes are dissapearing.

has anyone had this problem on there map, if so how did you fix the problem
and what causes this?

wrong portal/vis? it clearly starts when u touch the edge of the floor.
perhaps show screens from radiant, with detail structure filter separatly.

Had such problem when I was using the lightblock texture script. Maybe you have some special script located there?

solved the problem by adding “area portal brushes” to those areas kept it from doing it again,
strange i needed those as radar works fine without them unless there hidden on that map.

thanks

now im getting it inside of my buildings lol right at the door frame edges.

Just a question (or two). How many areaportals do you have in your map ? And why do you use them ?

Another question is: do you know anything about the “vis compile process”. Its actually a phase the compiler is doing when you compile your maps.

Now for your test builds you can easily switch the -vis phase, its not so important if you just want to have your map compiled and tested. Just use the -meta swtich only and then test your map and see if your problem still exists (i bet not), because im not sure if its really the vis compile what is causing this.

If so, then of course you need to do some research about structural/detail stuff.

i fixed the problem i think it was from a floating caulk on the floor, the patio it had a caulk texture
on the botton of the floor or it was from not using shift+U under the doorway frame, so i had
overlapping brushes with caulk overlapping the wood textures to.

either way doing both solved the problem i could possibly remove all the portals to.

/edit

was a good idea to texture under the patio floor anyway if i left it as it was a user could pretty
much see through the floor like a wallhack if he layed on the ground to look under patio floor.
