Give Phantom's sword to all cards

His sword is part of his character, why isn’t it standard on all cards?

Because it’s nothing more than a glorified cricket bat. Your guns are more useful and some people run around with the knife because its faster than the sword.

Load outs with Katana have good augments. Thats the main reason people prefer it. Undercover augment is paired only with Katana; there is untrackable in 2 of them paired with Bomb squad or Drilled; In third there is Cool, but Katana is boosted with Chopper a lot.

I use BL94, but personally i’d like to get my hands on C62 as it looks to be really good one.

Also i agree. Katana isn’t superior melee weapon. Just ask anyone who uses Red eye’s G41 knife operative load out XD. It’d be interesting if Phantom had some knife load out with Chopper and Quick slash too.

No thanks. I like having a knife to quickly gib people and move on. Meleeing is for new players who don’t realise they have a KEK.

Don’t bring a knife into a gunfight. Use your SMG.

This topic has been brought up many times before. Although I find it extremely satisfying to go on katana streaks, I can see why people would want a knife. Although the stiletto is gross no matter who’s wielding it XD

I don’t understand the appeal of a swordless Phantom, like, at all. If I’m not gonna try and flank and backstab, I might as well play a different merc. Sure, you can cloak and surprise shoot people, but srsly, heals, ammo, artillery, all better than cloak, if you’re just gonna gun everything.

a) you run faster
b) guns are better than katana both in terms of DPS and utility
the only advantages katana has:

  • that it can be easy to hit
  • frontloaded damage
  • and maybe even hit multiple enemies

Anytime you ambush someone with a katana you might as well have lined up their heads and take 'em out in few headshots. A good player will turn around and easily shed half your hp, even if you do finish them off with a second hit.

At most I’d like to see something along the lines of this:

Undercover
Chopper
Quick Slash

Because the EV doesn’t have as much damage reduction against melee weapons, even compared to LMGs and mounted MGs. At least, that’s what I think is the case.

Otherwise, useless.

Phantom is such an annoying dumb merc right now. He’s either useless, or useless and annoying.

Why what? It’s pretty obvious. Phantom is not a melee merc and has never been a melee merc nor was he advertised as a melee merc. Using your gun is 100% better. People can have fun running around meleeing with him. He’s not awful at it compared to using other mercs in that capacity. But when people start calling him awful because they aren’t succeeding as melee only is where they need to get a viewpoint adjustment.

This subject comes up constantly by people who think Phantom is a melee merc and then believe him to be weak because they aren’t doing well. I’ve spoken about my view on the subject many times and this .gif of good old Dr. Jones does more than any words I could write.

Alternative solution: give katana to more than just one merc, go back in time, and make sure that everyone thinks the katana was never Phantom’s signature melee weapon.

It’d be perfect if Phantom’s mask was on the guy with the sword, and Fragger’s face was on Indy.
