Gib time / damage - increase needed?

The time it takes to gib someone is very low in DB, and could do with being increased, or rather the amount of damage it takes to gib someone should be increased.

I haven’t been playing Medic much lately so don’t know how Medics feel about it, but I’ve had a number of occasions where I’ve been killed right next to a Medic and even if he’d wanted to revive me he couldn’t because I was gibbed faster than he could get his de-fibs out. It’s rare to find a Medic who’s prepared to follow me around when I’m Engie or Soldier to keep me alive while I do the objective, but when it does happen it’s pretty pointless anyway because he can be close enough to touch me and still not be able to revive me before I can be gibbed.

In ET (ETMain) it takes 75HP damage to gib someone. ETPro increased this to 113HP, an increase of 50%. If DB’s damage to gib is similar to ET’s I’d suggest a similar increase. Either way it should take at least as many bullets to gib someone as it takes to kill them IMO.

I think its fine as is. Although I am curious if you can headshot a downed player or not. I also find it odd that players who are headshot killed can be revived since I am coming off a game where they cannot.

Hmm, I think I was thinking pre-spread change. So maybe it does warrant a slight modification.

You can headshot a downed player, and it only seems to need 1 or 2 HS to gib them. Personally I never bother to knife anyone anymore as it takes so few bullets to gib. But dying while planting C4 with a Medic not 2ft away and being gibbed almost before I hit the ground with no hope of a revive seems a nonsense, certainly as far as the Medic is concerned, why even have revive paddles if the only time you can use them is if the other guy is too stupid to gib?

We agree that gibbing is too quick at the moment, it’s a bit too hard for Medic’s to get the revives in sometimes. We’re going to be making a few changes to address this.

If gib time is increased, will paddles get some kinda cooldown? Also, if ttk is going to be reduced soon, I’d assume time to gib will be a natural consequence so I hope there isn’t overkill, no pun intended, to increasing gib time.

Totally agree with you on this. Maybe increase damage needed to gib by like 75%

theres a revive shield? i haven’t noticed this at all

You get up so fast I hope there isn’t any plans to increase any immunity if there is indeed one.

There is one, but it’s pretty tight and there’s not much encouragement to pick ppl up mid combat. Infact, the whole yin and yang gib and revive element from RTCW and ET hasn’t really happened yet in DB. Nothing a few tweaks can’t sort :slight_smile:

Yep, which is why I’m not playing Medic at the moment, he has no real role in the game. With health regen, gimped med packs, poor revive shield and almost instant gib, he has nothing to do, and doesn’t have the tools to do it even if he did.

Not only is it hard to rev it is pointless because you know you are going to die…

I do think a Revive Shield is needed and if you think about it Med Pack Healing also impacted this area a great deal. I know there has been a lot of discussion about how Med Pack should heal but when you rev someone a Med Pack that can heal quick saves your butt all the time as you leap for cover…

IIRC the current iteration of revive shield is a 25% reduction in damage received for 2 seconds, or until you shoot.

The problem currently with gibbing is that you can gib someone before their body even hits the floor, making it impossible to get a revive.

Sorry Valdez, must have missed that thread.

As for Smooth’s suggestion of being immune for a short time, that might actually be a better solution, as long as the in-capped player is immune for as long as it takes a Medic a metre or 2 away to select de-fibs and revive (which I think is a bit longer than half a second).

If the revive shield only reduces damage, I think that is tolerable. But full immunity? That would be just frustrating. They have that in another FPS and everybody hates it there.
