Giant lag spike in EVERY game?

(Setzaroth) #1

This may very well be a known issue, but in every game I’ve played since I started, each match has at least one major lag spike that lasts a few seconds which causes me to teleport (and usually die)

What is causing this? I can’t imagine it’s anything on my end because no other game I play has this issue.

Some other players I know and I have them as well. They started suddenly after one of the last patches. Don’t know if they are working on a fix for it.

I never had them before. I have random ones since 1 or 2 months I would say.

Good to know I’m not the only one that has experienced this

(LifeupOmega) #5

Yeah I’ve mentioned this before, it only happens once, at the very start of the game, and pretty much teleports me to a random spot in the direction I’m running. It can be hilarious or it might kill me, but it always happens.

I had this for a while

Is it close to yours?

@LifeupOmega This spike could be caused by players loading into the match.

If this happens again, have a look and see if someone has recently joined the server. It could be spiking as you’re loading their assets in.

It’s not from people joining in, I get it aswell and it feels more like packet loss which teleports you forward than fps lag, but it definitely isn’t packet loss as the problem doesn’t persist after the first teleport. It also happens on already full servers.

dont forget the EV lag ACTIVATOR when you walk to EV and start moving while repairing.

Yes, that’s exactly what mine looks like. Though it’s not quite that long. (usually)

That still shouldn’t happen. And it happens EVERY game, at least once. Even in full games.

Not to mention, I get killed while this is happening, so it doesn’t cause everyone to lag it would seem.

Is it possible to mitigate this?

I have in-game footage of every freeze I got in a Stopwatch match. 30 minutes of it, no audio (Plays.TV is caput)… Sorry, not worth uploading.

I have it better because the spikes doesn’t last one second, unlike Intel/NVidia users, but still enough to get me killed, miss my jumps or screw my aim.

In order to confirm my findings, invoke the console and type in

stat unitgraph

and watch for green spikes that will coincide with a game freeze.

Share your results by posting a video.

[color=“lime”]Green = CPU core processing
Gold = GPU core processing
Blue = Draw(?)
Red = UE3 process execution

EDIT:
You will discover that it’s not the server causing the spike. It’s client side processing.
