Getting started on a BIG project...

(TheRogueEvangelist) #1

gasp I’m about to start a big ass project. It will be a complete mod. It will contain new maps, weapons, models, gameplay modes, etc. (I plan to name it “Wolfenstein - Insurrection MP”.) I’m not saying this mod will be done in the next century (exaggeration), and I definitely don’t have the experiance required…but it’s a learning proccess. This mod will be a mere set of plans for a while, but in that time I will be gaining knowledge, and learning how to make this mod happen.

I need to know:
What are the tools I will need supposing I’m making a complete mod with new maps, weapons, models, and gameplay modes? Any reccomendations are welcome.

Do you believe I can accomplish this over time? Sometimes I seem I bit stubborn (if not delerious), but I hope that doesn’t affect what you think the likelihood of me finishing this is.

And the third and final question:
This will take a loooong time (or as most would put it, it’s a learning proccess to which you must be patient.) Will the Wolf - ET engine be out-dated by the time I’m done?

Well, do you have the source code? And if you do, what did it take for you to acquire it?

It will be out-dated as soon as Doom 3 is released. Hopefully it won’t be too long till I test drive that.

/me begins to drool

Oh, well good. No point in starting a mod then. Forget that idea. Thanks for the info.

edit: and I’m glad you’re so excited about Doom 3.

I hope you’re not upset…I never meant my post to be mean…it’s just…DOOM 3!!! But i’d love to see a new mod if you can do it. The engine will be outdated, but not the love for the game. And trust me when I say that I love Enemy Territory. People will still play…people still play that shitty Counter Strike bullshit and It looks like a playstation 1 game.
I’m cheering for you if you can pull it off.

STFU MAN!!! COUNTER-STRIKE ROCKS!!! And it’s not always the game graphics that make it a legendary game. You just got me way more upset by calling Counter-Strike “shitty CS bullshit.” And Half-Life 2 will OWN Doom 3. If you’re the only one who’s gonna cheer me on, then forget this.

LOL!

Well I wasn’t saying only graphics make a game legendary…what I should have said was ‘shitty Counter Strike bullshit is gay.’

Again, I’m sorry to have upset you. Perhaps you should mod for Half Life 2. Or even better…mod for Half Life, since CS “rocks.”

I worship Half-Life, and I would love to start making mods for it. That game, without question, has broke the record for the number of mods being made for it, which is why it upsets me to have to consider this question, but are you sure the Half-Life engine isn’t out of date?

If there is one thing I regret in my life, it is missing out on all the good days of modding, when it was fairly new and good mod-platforms were just first out. Y’all are probably like 17-20 years old at minimum. Well, I’m 15, which means I those days I missed out on happened when I was about 10 years old. First of all, I was stupid then. Second of all, my parent wouldn’t let me buy M rated games. I wish I were there to catch the very begining of Half-Life and Wolfenstein, but I just wasn’t born early enough. Most of you are probably what I would consider the perfect age, the age I wish I was right now. Sigh I don’t feel like talking any more.
