I don’t see how this is an issue. CoD players were also whining about it because they thought it was kind of like an perk in a CoD game.

I mean it has a long cool-down period and it takes up energy. And it also takes some time to use it. And it’s a medic only ability.

And the game has medics anyone, it’s not like other games where you can’t be revived.

That’s the thing, it’s blue and it stands out from all the other things in the HUD

Ah. Yeah, the Ark overlay they’ve been using for the buttons stands out way more than any NORMAL button would. Gotta grant that.

Even the bright green of the “A” button makes more sense usually.

Exactly, the default is actually the stick. So it’s like a dark circle. Stands out a lot less than a bright blue circle.

The blue icons are used in the videos to be platform agnostic. The actual in-game HUD will show the appropriate button graphic for PS3 or 360, and the key binding for PC.

SD, please confirm now that no respawn timer is only a joke or just noobyfying the game for console gamers but PC has it :wink:

Cool vid but nothing we couldn’t of figured out on our own. The grenade cooldown seems like its gonne be about 10 seconds which is seriously cool!. No more nade spamming. Unless you’ve unlocked the abilites to reduce the time.

How does the game get noobified becuase it doesn’t have the respawn timer? Wouldn’t it be more noobish and easy to have it there to view whenever?

In Starcraft the pros complained about the addition of a timer because it took away the advantage of instinctively timing your play.

Okay, that just sounds weird - They complain about something that just helps? :l

I don’t think only relying on ‘‘instincts’’ will help that much in StarCraft

I realized I needed the timer up so I knew when to go for an early push, or just to see how long the game has been dragged out, and I can tell you - I do not like the 50 minutes+ games :l

Call me cynical, but I doubt these videos are aimed at those people (i.e. you) who have already researched the game, have plenty of experience at playing previous SD titles, etc. :slight_smile: I also doubt that the videos are trying to score points in some contest I’m not aware of. Generally, this kind of video is aimed at entirely the opposite kind of player, who is quite new to the topics being discussed, and maybe even the genre itself. I’m sure experienced players will pick the game up quickly, without the need for this kind of video - but why bother pointing out the obvious?

I’m also wondering, does a video have to exceed some kind of level on the eilte-o-meter before it warrants a positive, rather than negative opening for a post? :slight_smile: You do realise there are other levels of FPS player out there, and that they may actually visit these forums in search of basic information, rather than the answer to life, the universe, and everything? :slight_smile:

don’t think they ever complained, maybe they originally reacted negatively but they realized its usefulness by now. Instead of having to use an external clock for the different openings timings they can use the built-in clock, clever. Or just for the observers, jumping in a live broadcast and knowing where the game is at is also a plus.

Where did you get that from? Only smug Broodwar elitists were complaining about his, but they were also always complaining that custom hotkeys are newby, useless and basically shouldn’t be allowed.

Most people thought this isn’t useful for high level play but only for the noobs (read this TL thread when timer came out http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=154779). Turns out it’s the other way round, now pros use this all the time and it’s rather useless for noobs cause they have other problems and their timings are not that important.

So yeah, in BRINK knowing the time when you respawn makes it tactically way more complex and interesting.
And I don’t think that it should be a skill to count down the time in your head. That’s just a stupid skill you would have to train. Using the respawn timer to your advantage is challenging enough.

Cause I don’t see its use besides a big bunch respawn. And I don’t see people complaining about 1 or 20 seconds to respawn except for “PGM” usually.

The only one man action I can imagine a respawn timer will allow is suicide attacks when the timer is close to zero and I don’t see that as a good gameplay element. Death need to be a pain to matter and make us fear it more.
Plus it would crowd the HUD a bit more.

Yeah, the HUD looked pretty crowded with stuff, but hopefully it wont be that much in the way, we still got a big fat canvas to look on :stuck_out_tongue:

And if they do distract… Maybe we can get the option to shrink our HUD? :o

And yeah… We should fear being killed, not use it to our advantage
