(At the Gates) #4

Very nice. Great info in there. Thanks.

(SkillerBehindYou) #5

quite important bit in there:

"Steve ā€˜badman’ Hessel

[…] Er war anwesend, um den Spielern Rede und Antwort zu Brink zu stehen. Auf meine Frage hin, ob es Linux Serverfiles geben wird, bejahte dies Steve."

ā€œHe was present so that he could answer any questions players might have regarding Brink. When I asked if there are going to be linux serverfiles, Steve said yes.ā€

thats pretty neat

oh and btw: Hi

(Mustang) #6

It seems badman’s German is very good

(Fluffy_gIMp) #7

Indeed, you’d almost think he was German… oh wait he is!

(Mustang) #8

You can’t win this with facts
German is a state of mind

(ktr) #9

Es wird sicherlich gegen 60 verschiedene Waffen geben

60 different weapons?!?

(Mustang) #10

Approximately 60, yes

(ktr) #11

Last time I’ve checked, there was <30 weapons.

(Mustang) #12

Could be that each faction has 30 meaning 60 unique weapon sounds in total?
Not sure, just reading what it says

More confirmation that hitsounds didn’t make it in again

Here’s my rough take from it… I don’t speak German but hopefully what I’ve written is easier to read than a Google translation.

Linux server files = awesome.

Spectator Modes:

In the console version, [there is] only a 3rd person spectator mode. In the PC version a [fuller] spectator mode (I’m guessing this means free-fly cam and first person spectator modes since these are staples and maybe a third person shoulder cam).

There’s a line just after that about a ā€œdemo versionā€ but I think that’s Google translate sucking, and instead the author is talking about the ability to record demos.

Movement speed:

The author describes it as slower than Return to Castle Wolfenstein or Enemy Territory. However, they note that the PC version will feel faster because we won’t be limited to what seemed like a FOV of 75 on the console.

Movement Speed in a Battle:

(Next part is me paraphrasing heavily, may not be accurate)

The speed concerns are minimized because, while a battle, unlike in most shooters where opponents attack around corners or maybe jump over walls, in Brink, opponents come at you from unexpected angles. The animations for sliding and jumping of your enemies appear quick and smooth.

Weapon Spread:

For fast movements, especially sliding, shots increasingly scatter. If, however, you remain standing still or crouch, you reduce the spread. Heavy weapons had a constant scattering (Google translate suckage here, I’m sure).

Heavy Body Type:

Roughly, General Wolfenstein comments on how a heavy will get his ass handed to him if he’s not careful and well supported. Perhaps best used as a ā€œmobile machine gun.ā€

Competitive Gaming:

All the perks can lock. This means that you can put all players on a level playing field by making them Level 1 or agree to allow abilities up to a certain Rank. When asked about a Promod or SDK, Steve Hessel could make no definitive statement.

Hopefully someone will toss us a proper translation and correct my guess-work.

60 weapons? I thought it was 24.

(General Wolfens) #17

just asking him again, perhaps i missunderstood it? just a sec

(DouglasDanger) #18

So there is some sort of theater mode. Sweet!

(ClickClickBOOM) #19

Thanks Wolfens, already thanked you on ESL but great article. CBA to translate it  sorry non-germans but I have to study for uni

(JeP) #20

Are we talking about something really close to COD’s theater mode, recording all that happens in a match and allowing you to fly everywhere and see people move and shoot even when they are at the other side of the map ? I didn’t expect it but if it’s true, that would be really neat. Don’t want to raise my hope too high on that one though… can a developper comment it please ?
