Genuine Lore Question: Are SD's Games Connected?

(PeterComputer) #1

I’ve been looking at some of the other games SD has tackled before and I’ve noticed a bit of a pattern. Rad Soldiers, Tempo and of course, Dirty Bomb all tackle similar topics. Nuclear attacks in London and people fighting to prevent the worst or salvage what’s left. Well, in Rad Soldiers bombs also fall in Rio de Janeiro, but I’m more interested in the connection between Tempo and DB anyways.

So, in Tempo, some guy threatens to bomb London unless someone gives him one trillion pounds, right? The whole game is you and your squad trying to fight and defuse the various bombs scattered around the city in order to save it from exploding. Now, I haven’t ever watched the ending of the game, but I’m willing to bet you face the maniac that set London to explode and manage to stop him.
…Or everything goes wrong and boom goes the dynamite.

Now, if the latter happened, it could serve as an explanation to the, and I quote, “mysterious radiological attacks” that start the events in DB. Further proof to the link between the two games are the casting of the same voice actors in both of the games and the use of similar, sometimes exactly the same, objects used in both the games. Bushwhacker’s Turret, Turtle’s Shield, the device you use to quickly disarm bombs… the list goes on and on. Oh, and Stoker in all the three games. So there’s also that.

I’m probably reading too much into the situation and this is just a case of having an idea and trying to find the right angle to approach it. There are holes in my theory too so that only further proves that I’m wrong. I’d love to hear your thoughts anyways.

Also, devs, if you are reading this, give us moar lore! ok thx

Tempo and DB are related, some same characters even, same world, different game

I’m not a dev, but I can tell you you’re spot on. We had a thread a long time ago (>1 year on this very forum) that pretty much showed a ton of similarities between Tempo and Dirty Bomb. Including Sawbonez, as you’ve mentioned Bushwhacker’s turret, and Stoker. That thread even went into extra details, including Proxy and some of the other names behind players. Such as It’s actually Lisa “Proxy” Wells, and some of the named Characters existing previously.

If I could find that thread, I would let you know, and I might even be confusing games, but whatever the other game was, I just remembered it was a mobile game on Apple for a limited time if I remember.

I think her full name is Elizabeth “Proxy” Wells

Ever heard of the Marvel universe or DC Universe? What about the Warchest Universe?

NNNnoooooOOOOOO!! How could you SD?! Don’t you know how to keep a secret?

Major spoiler regarding female announcer, click at your own risk:

This is the most anti-climatic female announcer reveal.

What’s next? Unlocking Turtle in DB, through hidden “Seaman Turtle” iOS game? Kinda like “Chop the Dog” with GTA V?

Wow, thanks to everyone for the replies! So, is it actually confirmed that Tempo and DB are both canon? I doubt Rad Soldiers is part of the main universe though since it’s just a bit too… cartoony.

You see, this is where I started to doubt the connection between the two games. If you look at the backstory of some of the mercs that make appearances in both Tempo and DB, you start to notice things that just don’t match up nicely. Nader for example; In Tempo, you get to play her (or a very similar character model) but if you look at her backstory in Dirty Bomb, it doesn’t add up.

Even if you ignored that, the link between the events in Tempo and the start of the Dirty Bomb attacks is a bit confusing. Supposedly, in Tempo, if the bombs did go off, the city had already been evacuated long ago, since the gameplay usually takes place in abandoned buildings and streets. In Dirty Bomb though, the attacks seem like they were sudden, not exactly something people were expecting. That’s why the story of maps like Underground exist. People weren’t prepared for the attacks.

I really want to believe that there is a connection between the two games. There’s so much evidence to support this. The problem is, there are a few things that don’t fit together.

Anyways, as always, keep the thread going and let’s see if we can come to a conclusion.

Also, @TheStrangerous , thanks to that image, I just noticed that the mask that guy is wearing practically the same as Skyhammer’s in his Founder skins. Huh. Guess that’s another connection made.

(Xenithos) #9

Not sure if this is helpful to anyone, but this was one of the threads about this in the past

Please do NOT post in the thread that I linked to. Thank you.

Is that Phantom? Mask and armor plates in the hands look similar.

More like Phantom wannabe. This game is full of expies.

(PeterComputer) #13

What, the puzzle pieces tatooed on her arm? Or am I missing something?
And thanks for the link @Xenithos . This gives a bit more insight into the whole situation.

Nader looks way younger in this photo. Also, why would Germany allow their lawyers to be inked like a Blood member?

Good point.
Also @“Zar.” , this is quite a find. Although it’s just concept art, this does prove that SD might’ve considered making Rad Soldiers canon. For whatever reason though, they decided to alter her tatoos so we kind of lost that link.

Personally, although it might be possible that Rad Soldiers is canon, I would need more proof to believe that. Yes sure, there are overlaping characters and objects but… the tone of the game is just so different. Besides, when does Rad Soldiers even take place? Or Tempo, for that matter? Why would SD choose not to acknowledge these mercs’ backgrounds in other games?

Gahhhh so many questions!

(Runeforce) #18

They are not related in anyway, except SD decided to make a quick buck reusing assets.
