Generic BRINK MP modes.

(Jak Swift) #1

“BRINK” is the key word of the title, being that the Objective gameplay is a must keep. But…

I hear you all when you say “TDM will ruin the objective style brink is set out” but is it so much to ask for generic game modes with the BRINK objective priority still in place?

Say Capture The Intel? It would be like capture the flag but still be objective based like it is at the moment given the right tweaks.

Im 2 “Lifted” right now to think of a way you could altar TDM to be intune with the BRINK objective prio style so maybe forget that.
But the rest could be easily be done and please both crowds.

I love the objective prio way brink is made, but i also hate the fact MP is “campaign with random people”.

Here is my Tapir Jeffery :stroggtapir:

Your thoughts?

This is an argument i’ve supported for a bit now. Some people think the generic MP modes will detract from the core gameplay, but you’re not obligated to play them. I want something with infinite replayability and TDM, CTF, and KOTH provide that. The objectives from the campaign will grow stale without something to mix it up a bit.

Again nobody is obligated to play the modes, you can stick to the core objective matches. And trust me I “get it” very much on the team/classed based objective play. But Brink is a FANTASTIC very very tight shooter where all the weapons are super fun and well balanced (I think). Its a great way to allow players to showcase off their rank 5 guys and have intense battles.

Plus, you can easily throw in Brink style objectives into these game modes. Even in TDM, there can still be MG nests, walls to build like in the Cruise Missile what-if mission that can in turn be blow up by soldiers. CTF can easily incorporate a safe to hack open and an objective to carry back with maybe the ability to relock the safe with an engineer or something. There are tons of possibilities.

I don’t think its super necessary to give Medics tons of objectives in generic gameplay modes, I’m pretty sure everyone agree’s they extremely valuable in any situation.

So please, support the generic gameplay modes. It will help add infinite replayability to Brink. That along with actual stat tracking in game and I think Brink will be perfect.

give us something like a gigantic map with the winning prize being a gigantic pot of XP you can win or lose - 5 rounds, win all 5 rounds without losing get a unique piece of customization for your player…i don’t really know they need to come up with something quick though

That actually sounds like a really innovative KOTH mode. This is the kind of ideas and thinking we need to conjure up. SD will pick out the best and use it (I hope).

Bump, this is a very important topic IMO.

The thing I’m afraid of is that if Splash Damage officially supports these non-objective based gameplay modes it may influence the balance of the game in objective mode. They may need to sacrifice the balance of one game mode for the balance of another. It might impossible to reach optimal balance for both TDM and objective based in the same game.

Surely when (or if) they release a sdk there will be fan made maps with these gameplay modes in no time.

Also ctf is already in, a lot of maps require the offensive team to move an item (keycodes, airplane fuel, etc) form point a to point b. This is basically ctf. A lot of the objectives could also be interpreted as a kind of asymmetric koth or cp (the hack, repair or blow up objectives). I don’t think we’re ever going to see a form of TDM in a real Brink map. Killing as a primary objective just doesn’t seem to fit Brink’s style. Every game is a little bit TDM in it anyway, since there’s no way of winning without shooting your opponents.

What are the major team based fps gameplay modes anyway? Besides team deathmatch, capture the flag, king of the hill, escort & objective (those are all I could think of :D).

I have already stated in a thread of this exact nature that I will be working on a CTF style map based on Team Fortress 2’s 2Fort map. I can’t say anything for sure until the SDK comes out, but what I want to do is this:

Make a tribute map to 2Fort, but Ark style! An ark bridge that on one side yields a Rebel Shipping Containers style base and on the other a Security Ark style base that are symmetrical in nature. Obviously they won’t be EXACTLY the same, but I want to make it similar enough (besides the look) where neither team has an advantage.

I want 3 spawn points in each base, a data room, a sewer entrance (will probably have to be blown up), a main entrance, and a roof entrance (will probably require light body type to get to, but will yield as a sniping position like TF2 2Fort). The path to the data will have two entrances (like the stairs and descending hall from 2Fort). The only thing I’m worried about right now is how to fit the operative into it, I thought about adding a door to hack…dunno though.

But give it time, if Splash Damage doesn’t do it, the dedicated ET fans will make some I’m sure. W:ET had mods for TDM.

Actually the matches feel like TDM most of the time anyway because of the excellent shooter mechanics. I think TDM would be an easy fit thats already very balanced.

The thing you mentioned about some matches already like CTF is exactly my point on objectives still being valid for generic modes. Except for pure CTF both sides need an objective to capture and return.

I don’t see anything as unbalanced now nor in TDM modes. Everything feels right.

Keep in mind a huge playerbase is on Xbox360, with player made maps from the sdk not valid for us. We want/need a standard mode or a few to keep things flowing.

You named the 3 big ones, TDM, CTF, and KOTH. I’ve seen a few variations of these like Conquest in Transformers War for Cybertron (king of the hill with 3 nodes to control at once, very fun very popular mode). And with the 8v8 setup multi-node controlling would be amazing, especially with the defensive minded classes like engineers and medics. Man i’m getting excited just thinking about it.

Yeah this is something I didn’t think about ;/

We end up playing TDM whenever the hostage bugs out and fails to spawn. It’s a bit dull tbh.

Splash Damage should not touch TDM or CTF. They should work on complex maps that show off the scriptibility of maps, while releasing an SDK. Once the SDK is released, the community will do whatever it wants.

There should be no gametype other than the “objective mode.” That does not mean that CTF or TDM cannot exist. They should not exist as a filterable option, but they will exist within the objective mode, and belong to individual maps, as any gametype, classic or fabricated should be scriptable, really.

Essentially, W:ET.

with a SDK, a CTF map would be doable, and even include some regular hack, explode side objectives, the maps right now are best suited to what SD envisioned, a totally serarate map set is all that’s needed for CTF, no mods required
