Genders in Brink

(tokamak) #21
Even Diablo III supports both genders for every class! Blizzard may have a lot more resources than Splash Damage however.

-JJ
And a lot less outfits with a lot less detail.

(Super-Pangolin) #22

…?

Anyway, female models would require a LOT of work and memory, if they’d done it we probably wouldn’t have seen Brink for another year or two and there’d be no more than half as many customisation options, since it would have to be split evenly. SD said they were really bummed out they couldn’t include females, and really want to do so for whatever comes next with Brink.

EDIT: And your DP is familiar, did you post this exact thing on the Beth forums a month or two ago?

(korruption v2) #23

I guess we know who is really excited for female characters and customizations. :stroggbanana:

(Breo) #24

Both genders would be cool! But first they need to fix that glitch that change your clothes to random ones

(.Chris.) #25

Remove customisation and problem solved, am I the only one who thinks that been able to dress up your character has actually hurt the game rather than added anything to it? I never liked the idea but went along with it as it was said you would still be able to distinguish between teams, sadly this isn’t the case. Perhaps limit customisation to the body (face, hair and such) rather than the clothes.

(wolfnemesis75) #26

Not sure. But I think customization is awesome. I have 5 characters with unique abilities, weapons, and Classes. I am very glad that it is easy for me to tell who is who since I made each unique. I have a guy that is a cross between Simon Phoenix and B.A Baracus. How freaking cool is that, lol?

I pity the fool who messes with me!

(tokamak) #27

The still prevalent orange crap makes the customisation pointless anyway.

(Lydia) #28

Somehow i got the feeling , that all of you haters just hate for the sake of it .
You are looking for something . NO matter what it is , just to rantrantrantRANT !

I say , the customisation is ok , but a few more options and girls to choose would be cool

NO hating , no trolling .

(tokamak) #29

You’re ignoring the arguments. Dividing the customisation in two groups drastically lowers the amount of combinations you can have.

Say you got 6 options for each ‘part’ and there are 10 parts on the body. With only males you thus get 6x6x6x6x6x6x6x6x6x6 combinations. That’s 60 pieces of clothing creating 60.466.176 possible combinations.

Now take those 60 pieces and divide them over both genders. That’s
3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3 + 3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3. That’s 60 pieces of clothing creating 118.098 possible combinations.

This means that should they have divided their resources over two genders, we would’ve gotten 512 times less combinations to make our characters from.

Now I made the combinations up, I’m not going to put effort into calculating the actual possible combinations but I hope you understand where I’m coming from.

Frankly, having two genders is incredibly expensive.

(Kurnuttaja) #30

All shooters with girls suck (Combat Arms), no exceptions. Would you like Brink to suck aswell?

(Oschino1907) #31

I still have yet to see any arguement from those wanting to see female models on how it could work and not hinder other game deveolpments like future DLC to expand already featured content. Also still have seen no explanation of how youre going to do all the body types or exactly how they would fit into the story with whats already there. Maybe like Gear Of War is doing where there is like 1 Female character that can only be used for certain gametypes/missions.

Oh and for all thsoe saying it could be paid DLC, LOL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA they will never sell enough at a decent price to ever make up for the cost of creating, lets all be honet about this, not very many would be willing to PAY to play as female characters, only a small fraction of the overall community.

I just personally find many more reasons why not to do it then reason to do it. If the game was much bigger and from a much larger development team and sold 1million plus per platform (and still selling strong) then maybe start to talk about it but at this point its just another “gimme cause I want it” request rather then something that could actually be taken seriously. Lets all focus on realistic things that can improve and drive future sales of the game to keep it alive for a long time and not “personal” request to satisfy your own wants and needs.

no i didn’t post on Beth that was a friend of mine.

(StillBatusBrad) #33

Agreed. sobs I thought I was alone! Not interested inplaying dress up in a game played in FP. And I also think resistance and security look too much alike.:stroggtapir:

6x6x6x6x6x6x6x6x6x6 = 60,466,176 as you said.

3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3 + 3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3 = 4,261,684,428. No idea where you got 118,098.

70 times the amount of customization would be more I’d say.

I feel it’s a moot argument.

(StillBatusBrad) #36

UT games had girls - I thought they were brills and didn’t suck at all…

(DarkangelUK) #37

If it had been static models without any customization, then I would have fully expected females to be added… the reason for not adding them is very far removed from the likes of UT.

(Lydia) #38

Im wonder … what is so different in customizing a dude from customizing a girl ?
Is the difference that big if you customize a girl or a guy ? I´d say no . And saying " Girls don´t belong to Brink " is just stupid ._.

(DarkangelUK) #39

I understand where you’re coming from, but unless you have actual knowledge in what’s required for that type of thing then you can’t really comment accurately. I believe a lot of it as well had to do with mocapping females, rigging, animation etc which doubled cost and effort, but they still had the same timeframe. Had they had twice the money and twice the time, then I would’ve expected it.

(Lydia) #40

Well , mocap is another thing
But i think you could use a few mocaped things from the dudes
Do i really runn differently in combat only because imma girl ? (Besides the dudes are shaking their butts quite well :stuck_out_tongue: )
It shurely has to be mocapped a loooooad of things , but not everything
( Throwing nades , sprinting , using the injector and such things )
