Gametypes and Body Type-specific Gametypes for Console?

(Lequis) #1

I thought it was explicitly stated in the interviews that Brink is going to have several gametypes, I can’t figure out which one atm, so I’ll have to figure that out.

Somewhere in it they briefly mentioned stuff about multiple gametypes (which they weren’t talking about at the time, but they said there was going to be more than one).

What game types do you think will be in the game?

Do you think body type-specific gametypes will be in the game for consoles as well? (because that would make me sooooooooooooo happy SD)

I realize you may not have the ability to pick your gametype because of the blend of single, coop and multiplayer, which would then mean no body type specific game mode. Also it would be less likely with the tabs for character, etc, because otherwise they would have to lock game modes while you have specific body types.

I just watched all 4 parts, and I didn’t hear anything about multiple gametypes. I heard about map and mission variety, merging SP and MP, but nothing about different gametypes.

If they mentioned something about it, I would say they are variations on the objective play - like standard match, campaign, stopwatch, etc. I think that the objective gameplay is the only mode, you can just “tweak” it a little.

Yeah, I thought it was only objective based gameplay…no deathmatch or CTF stuff.

(Lequis) #4

maybe they just meant the gametypes were different per map (ie different objectives, escort, find and remove, etc)

consoles ?
gametypes ?
bodytypes ?
big fat[asnwer on all]

(tokamak) #6

If you mean body type specific objectives then, no, there won’t be any for the simple fact that bodytypes shouldn’t affect the roles on the battlefield, any combination of bodytypes should be able to stand a chance against another. Adding in body type specific objectives that would mean a team would automatically lose if they didn’t happen to have the right body type in their team.

surely gametypes:
objective
stopwatch
campaign(where you hop through server playing it)

Stopwatch/time trial sounds fun. But I was hoping for more console diversity. I wasnt expecting CTF or anything.

Also, to Tokamak, the primary intent of body type specific game types is for console dedicated servers effectively, nothing else.

Sucks that it probably won’t be instated, because MW2 never put in a MLG gametype (ie no killstreaks, shotguns, noobtubes/launchers, thermal/hearbeat)

Most console games are wayyy too restrictive. If there was a light only gametype, people who like fast-paced gaming would no doubt have more fun. Plus it would take out a lot of explosives, etc and boost the power of sniping for those who like it.

It isn’t a bad idea, it’s just too much programming considering body type isn’t part of the game, it’s part of the character, so it sucks to be me.

Maybe I should get this game for PC? Console is so much easier though…

Custom servers, custom filters, custom settings, guess what - PC versions ftw! I don’t play the insult that is MW2 but I did play on WaW servers where players got instantly kicked for using mines or the grenade launcher. Adminmods have to be the best thing that has happened to public multiplayer.

We’ll have to wait to see what options will be available for vanilla Brink.

(crazyfoolish) #10

sorry i am new to sd games what is time trial mode?

(Lequis) #11

There are 2 teams, one attacking, one defending.

The players play 1 side attacking, the other defending. The attacking team might beat the final objective in 15 mins, 37 seconds (or any other number), thus the next team to attack must complete the final objective within 15 mins 37 seconds or they lose, if they beat the time (or tie it I am assuming), they win.

ok that sounds fun. Is the objective to get inside the building the defenders are protecting or something?

maps will have multiple objectives to complete, that might be an example of 1 of the objectives.

(tokamak) #14

All maps in brinks are objective oriented, just like in both ET’s. A typical ET map has three subsequent objectives which involve repairing, hacking, escorting or destroying something which need to be completed by the attackers and defended by defenders.

The difference in gametype is more about the way multiple maps are played than what happens inside the game. The stopwatch mode is about which team complets the same map the fastest, the campaign mode is playing the entire story and ‘objective’ mode is just maps in random order.

There’s nothing stopping you from just organizing one! :stroggbanana:
