as a clan owner, i was wondering if purchase of game servers would open during the closed beta or would extraction have its own servers untill the game is released? also would there be a possible moding/coding community in the future to create plugins for the game. example TF2 with its various different community made game modes and what not or just fun plugins etc?
Gameservers during closed/open beta (if there is)
I think no mods will be trivial to made with official tools, since it would likely allow to override the purchase in order to get a content of the packs(either through remake or just unlock by mod).
And BTW: Those “fun plugins” are mostly not fun for players, so I would abandon them for the sake of server’ popularity, but do as you will.
What do you mean ‘until release’? This is a Free 2 Play game published by Nexon, there are not going to be servers purchasable by players. The game will either have Nexon-owned servers or be Peer 2 Peer.
Also, no mods. Communities may be asked to make maps and present mode ideas but the way Free2Play works, I doubt you’ll be able to mod things yourself.
Years of experience dealing solely with Free 2 Play games, with a specialisation in Nexon. That sounds weird but I’m being serious, when everyone else was playing COD I was playing Free 2 Play games. And Nexon happened to service one of my most played, so I became very involved with them. I know how it works. I’m open to the fact that this is slightly different, but you still can’t change the fundamentals of Free 2 Play and dedicated servers? Nope.
P.S. I know about TF2. That’s different in a way that I cannot easily explain.
I don’t understand why you speak with such certainty as if these were confirmed facts, when it’s actually just your opinion and speculation.
It only serves to enrage newcomers and confuse oldies when you don’t qualify such statements.
Tribes Ascend had dedicated servers that players could rent from HiRez. The servers were still HiRez-owned, but they were dedicated, and not peer to peer. You had to rent and manage them from within the game.
HiRez’s implementation of the system was not the greatest, but the idea is still there and could work fine. It does prevent things like custom maps and mods, though.
im fairly sure that when the game was still named dirtybomb there were quite a few threads about servers and most of us were anticipating dedicated servers for us to purchase for various reasons and it was something that i thought was on the ‘going to happen’ side from the way people were talking about it
imo dedicated servers have the potential to boost the game in terms of keeping players around for the long run and helping out clans in terms of scrim servers and competitive play
peer 2 peer will really be annoying if the game picks a player with a ****ty connection like mw2 back in the day. i think that would recieve alot of hate as games like ET and such run the way they do is because of dedicated servers (game play aside)

What I say is never pure speculation. It is an educated statement based upon years of experience. The reason I am constantly posting here is, I admit, because of my mistrust of Nexon as a publisher. But my opinion is extremely substantiated.
What dodgepong said about renting dedicated servers from HiRez is possible.
you realize we’ve been playing on dedicated servers for almost a year now, I can’t see peer to peer being introduced
nope, it’s been mentioned before
doesn’t mean you can rent one though, that’s still to be seen

Indeed. That’s what I’m saying.
IMO I am guessing there will be dedicated servers, for rent directly from Nexon. That gives another revenue stream for the game besides micro transaction purchases. Why provide servers for free when their are lots of people willing to shell out $50 or more a month to rent a server. No dedicated servers and you wont be seeing all the cash from the clans. They simply won’t play the game they like to have a place to call their own. If Nexon supplies the servers they can control the binaries, and it could ensure that there would be no hacking of the binaries. It would be a win win for them to rent servers.
I agree with this, actually. It’s a revenue stream and the servers need to be dedicated and lag-free in order for Nexon to deliver on the promise of a seriously competitive game. They’ve never done anything like this before, but it’s a seriously good idea.
Yeah it’s a great idea for them, but I’m not looking forward to see the inflated prices of server rental :+)
