Gamescom preview

Translation is a delicate affair, but here is my try of the quotes above:

Comme une alternative à ET: Quake Wars, avec des niveaux fermés et beaucoup moins de tactique.

“As an alternative to ETQW, with confined levels and far less tactics”

L’aspect tactique est assez simple et le jeu ne propose pas beaucoup de tricks

“The tactical aspect is fairly simple and the game doesn’t offer a lot of tricks”

It seems like you are kind of damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t these days in the FPS world. People seems to want vehicles and hate them, want big levels with many tactical attack paths (but not too many!), etc. I think that Brink is in a stage akin to a first draft. Many basic details are in place, but all the finesse and polish is yet to come. Criticizing graphics is premature, I think. Criticizing game controls is silly in the total absence of any PC version previews (to the best of my knowledge). I don’t pull a pie out of the oven when it is only half baked. Instead, I must wait patiently for the cooking to happen properly, and when it’s placed on the table, at that moment I will take a bite and decide whether it is good or bad.

To be completely fair (from http://www.jeuxvideo.com/articles/0001/00013246-brink-gc-2010-preview.htm ):

Stylized up to the smallest of details and offering action that is fast, effective and intelligent, Brink seems to more or less incorporate all the best elements of the competition: the upgrade system of M.A.G., the classes and skills of Killzone 2 along with the delirious aesthetics of Borderlands. Even if it needs a little bit of time to adapt in order to master the functioning of the mission system, it doesn’t reduce the true pleasure of the game. [We eagerly await] the future sessions of gaming online in order to find new surprises…

Thanks for the proper translation of the quotes I referred to myself.

My point still stands, this journalist seems to have his own idea of what he considers tactical.

I don’t think 20 minutes of first time play can capture what the game is like, especially if you go in with pre-concieved notions of what you want to see

Indeed nail, but it works both way

I think the point of this thread was to show that non all reviews were supa dupa good, I feel myself like this guy was biased as hell too, but a critical point of view is never a waste

Peace

Being of French Acadian descent, I have come to understand that the French like to argue from extreme positions, and seems that we either really like something or else dismiss it as substandard. Whether the topic is champagne, theater or international relations, everybody’s got an opinion, and they aren’t afraid to argue it in the streets, cafés and press. i think the two articles mentioned in this thread are a perfect example of just how different two previews can be…

Hm… I might want to check my family tree :stuck_out_tongue:
