Gamers and there Platform ( not very gameplay related sorry )

(rallosdrake) #1

So i’ve been reading these forums for a good few months now and im looking forward to Brink , but reading these forums has brought a few things to my attention and i cant help but ask about it. Firstly why is there so much hate from PC gamers to console gamers , to me it seems like most Pc gamers assume that all console players are little kids who bash COD i have to say im 17 i play xbox AND pc and i know what people mean about little kids and idiots on xbox who sit there and camp but surely this happens on every platform ? but please do not assume that we are all like this i personally hate camping and find it boring, as do many people i game with . Secondly is the idea of great games such as Halo requiring no talent , while i can see peoples point about it being a much easier game then say Brink (based on the fact that from what ive seen of brink it requires alot of much needed team play) i cannot agree with the fact that it is talentless , to be a good player you have to be able to work with the people around you if they want to or not , for instance me and my xbox friends always try and work together and play as a team . So basically im just interested as to why many pc gamers and console gamers hate on each other, we all enjoy games no matter what platform we play on and it annoys me when there is all this negativity when we play games to enjoy ourselves. Any thoughts and answers are gratefully received.

Come on man, how long have ya been using the internet? No one wants to read a block of text.

I’m not gonna say that the following is exactly my opinion, but I do think it has some truth to it:
Consoles games are holding games back. Both visually because of their extreme limitations, but overall. Aiming with a controller is much slower which means games themselves need to be much slower.

About 10 years. You dont have to read it if people are interested in this topic like i am then they are free to read no, you dont have to read it if your not interested there is also no other way for me to voice my opinion on this topic. i should have put a warning in the title .

i completly agree with you . consoles are holding games back just look at the new Frostbite engine it will be amazing on the pc , however it will deffently be worse on the consoles , the software in pc’s will laways beat the consoles hands down

I’m not sure I agree with the idea of consoles holding games back. I do agree with them holding them back visually because they don’t update consoles every year like they do processors/video cards/RAM. But I don’t agree that games suffer because of it.

I think consoles are a very competitive realm that developers have to push the gameplay to compete and make themselves unique to survive. I don’t think a great game like Mass Effect is held back because of consoles. The same with Assassin’s Creed. Gameplay and Story can always be improved, even if the graphics can not be, and to me those 2 features trump the visuals when you get to the point of HD gaming that we’re at today.

Just my 2c though.

a fair point my favorite game of all time is Mass Effect 2 , and you have a point about developers having to push themselves to survive. I do wonder though how COD has survived so long when it is not that much different with each game .

Young kids and peer pressure. Kid 1 is rich and buys the new COD game every year because he wants to be better than Kid 2. Kid 2 buys it asap to try to fit in and play. Kid 3 doesn’t want to be excluded, so he bugs his parents to buy it so he can play with his buddies. And the vicious cycle continues. Or everyone would still be playing WaW instead of going all the way to black ops now lol.

That’s a pretty wide generalization, but that’s what it feels like to me. Incremental step ups each game, nothing game-breaking or really awesome.

Please take into account that console games bring in a lot of money to publishers and developers, money without which a lot of games would not be made - maybe even BRINK!

I am sure a lot of console gamers out there think all PC gamers just play WoW and CS while sitting in a corner of a dark room trying to convince everyone on a forum how 1337 their skillz are.

As we all know this is not true - some of them leave the light on…j/k

pc shooter enthusiasts typically consider shooting as the center of the shooter. The art of taking a shot is dumbed down with a console controller, so i can’t relate to console shooter enthusiasts; the only shots that give me pleasure can’t be done on a console controller…

i guess its like if there were two groups of audiophiles, one group typically spends $300-$1,000 on a set of high quality headphones to really appreciate the music and the 2nd group listens to music on $15 headphones… Much of what the first group enjoys about a piece of music can’t even be heard by the 2nd group… now imagine that composer’s recognized that 90% of audiophiles fit in the 2nd group and made music that never was complex enough to not be heard well by the 2nd group… That is why PC shooter enthusiasts often dislike console shooter enthusiasts.

Wow, alright consoles; yes visually they are not as elite as pc’s that’s just a fact of life. But, as far as holding games back? let me bring up the point of accessibility, consoles put games into 90% of all households in America (not sure about the rest of the world) if it weren’t for consoles we would NOT have any of the game quality or companies or advances OR FUNDING that these games are getting today.

Personally I have nothing against PC’s but I just like to use a controller much better but this arguement is getting old and as much as I really don’t care I just thought i would bring this to your attention :infiltrator:

(rallosdrake) #12

I think i should of made myself clear before i only believe that games on consoles are only being help back graphically as graphics are not important for a game to be great e.g Minecraft . the argument is old and it really annoys me when i see people being aggressive to one another just because of there platform

Console are NOT holding games back. Game developers in general are just too lazy to have the will to optimize their game for quad or hexacore… or even 360 and PS3.

Otherwise, games would look pretty on all platform and only the art direction would matter.

I disagree. They can’t make up for the lack of ram in the current generations. Graphically, consoles can’t keep up. And I’m a console fan.

(iezza) #15

Consoles only have 512mb of ram. although they use it much more efficently than computers its bad. i can fidn low range PC’S with about 2gb

(Insanity) #16

There have always been fanboy wars between different platforms and consoles and there always will be.

Your best bet it just to ignore the people who engage in the arguments as there is rarely anything constructive that comes out of them.

(iezza) #17

Im not braggin about computers. i use a console !

Same here.
