Gameplay feedback: Does headshot matter?

Here it is.

I gently ask everyone to contribute to this thread in order find out what can be improved (if anything needs to) about the gunplay + health system of Brink.

It’s very early to say, but here is the concern of this thread.

Headshot in a FPS game is crucial, more important than bodyshot. Ideally, the best players should take out enemies by being smarter and more accurate, but so far… most people (including myself) end up killing more people with body shots than headshots and many times, performing headshots do not seem to inflict more damage than bodyshots.

If we don’t want Brink to end up like any CoD game in which most players end up killing people by shooting them in the foot, some improvements may be welcome to make Brink a more rewarding and balanced game when it comes to shooting and aiming.

So, what’s you perspective?

Questions
Do you feel that Brink actually properly rewards headshots?
If not, what do you think needs to be fixed and how?

Yes, headshots are still headshots.

yeah its hard to kill people sometimes and then others i get taken down with what seems like one or two shots. but then again I’m a center mass kind of guy.

Headshots still count. With a buffed gun from an engineer with an improved weapon buff you can take down every body type in a single headshot with the bolt-action rifle. Two shots with the Dragnov. 3-4 with any other gun which, provided the rate of fire with most weapons, takes a grand total of 1-2 seconds in a close quarter battle.

So I feel the way headshots work just fine as they still matter but very rarely is it the standard headshot deal of “turncorneromgdead”.

The overall bullet damage needs to be tweaked. Takes too many bullets to gib as well. Why no death sound/grunt when you do melee someone?

Someone else mentioned that buffed bullets feel no different and I agree, yet sometimes I feel like I am taken down in 2-3 shot, yet I unload an entire clip in someone and they don’t die.

Yes, Headshots matter.

I just don’t like spending more bullets to kill and incap than a moving person. that seems weird for a game that boasts balance so much. I don’t always have time to melee down opponents.

Well without damage buffing, me and my friend made several tests and headshots didn’t seem to do much more damage on headshots.

With the sniper rifle, it required 2 headshots or 2 bodyshots.
With an assault rifle, 5 headshots or 5 in the body.

Is damage buffing absolutely required to take advantage of headshots?

This, tbh.

Its getting annoying having to waste ammo on people you’ve already downed if you dont have time to finish them off with a melee.

head shots deal %150 damage, but while you’re taking that extra time to aim for my tiny head on my light character, i’m unloading my belgo auto pistol into your gut and i win. this isn’t COD, it’s Brink. The only time killing someone matters is when they are holding an object that you want to swarm. I don’t mean for that to sound snotty. I think people have a difficult time getting out of the FPS mindset created by other games. This is a new mindset. you have to evolve your gameplay to be a successful brink player.

Good luck!

Well I don’t think so, Brink is pretty much like CoD, since most people only full fire with SMG. Unless my damage are buffed, headshoting people with my singleshot rifle doesn’t do much in the head.

In my day, CoD was full of people who ran around with P90s and Steady Aim, spraying and praying their way to victory.

There’s also the fact that the best way to stop an enemy from accomplishing their objective is to kill them before they get to it. Next best way is to kill them after they’re at the objective. Point is, this game is still about killing folks 90% of the time, it’s just not part of the win conditions.

But anyway, I think headshots are fine as they are now. I’ve been one-shot once or twice by people trying to play sniper, but otherwise I’ve been doing a lot of damage with an AR at range going for headshots.

My headshots with the bolt action (with a good connection) drop fools. If it connects, it drops em, now I think a good question is, should they be forced to respawn? I say yes. I want to see brain giblets fly and the medic standing next to him piss himself before i get him too.

I love this games damage/health system. I think the weapons feel very balanced (except the poor lobster) and they are all fun.

I agree with the melee question. It and the grenade explosions feel empty. Its so strange to see a developer knock it out of the park with weapon sounds, styles, and overall design but miss at the explosions and melee attack.

This game could use a melee attack that feels and sounds similar to Halo, seems appropriate.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, like someone said headshots are 150% damage, body is 100%, and legs are 75%. An excellent page to gain a better understanding of Brinks Health and Damage system is http://denkirson.xanga.com/738334226/brink/

This is exactly how I feel. It would also be that slight nerf to medic that is needed.
