Game wont load at all under OSX 10.9 Mavericks..

Hi Radegast,

Your efforts are greatly appreciated. It’s fantastic to see people determined to keep ET going. If ever you release another Mac version, I’d be delighted to test it out. Running on a 13" MBP 2.5 GHz.

Under PlayOnMac, the low FPS issues seem to appear when fog is present. On maps with no fog, or indoors, FPS performance is as good as ever. PunkBuster will not work under Wine on any game under all circumstances. However, with PB support discontinued and most servers disabling it, it’s not a major issue.

I’ll have to fire up my old Windows desktop to get my ET fix for the time being!

Cheers,
BlackWolf.

So are we all supposed to create new files, new bin pk3s whenever Macintosh decides to do what Macintosh does, even the smallest most insignificant update? Suck ass on them because they came, sold, conquered? Was this why the code was given to us?

I say to you, to all of us, to hell with Apple, to hell with Mackintosh. Amen.

Tried the ETL solution but indeed keep getting “missing pak etc…”
I’m running on a macbook air mid 2012. Hope you can get it resolved cause I’m kinda to stupid myself to perform this kind of magic and I miss playing ET

Thanks in advance for your work and time and I’ll be following this topic eagerly to see if it evolves to a solution.
I managed to make ET:L app bundle for Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

I’ve wasted the whole Saturday on this, so I would really appreciate if you could try it out: http://mirror.etlegacy.com/etlegacy-2.71rc3-dirty-git.zip [~241mb]

Just unzip and click on etl.app

If that doesn’t work, you need to download libSDL 1.2 DMG file from http://libsdl.org/download-1.2.php, open it and move “SDL.framework” to /Library/Frameworks or /Users/MajorHassle/Library/Frameworks

EDIT: turns our you need to install SDL.framework and if you get “App can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer” error, then right-click (or control-click) the etl.app file and then choose “Open”
Thank you man!!

I figured out how to fix the missing pak/wrong checksum error and thanks to a nice little tool called mac dylib bundler, I should be able to sort out dependencies as well. I still don’t know how to solve the yellow-red screen issue, but it goes away for me when I execute vid_restart in the console. In short, I should be able to create a working OS X app bundle when ET: Legacy 2.71 is released!

(wormskull) #26

Thanks so much for this! It finally loads- however, i am stuck because I can’t seem to enable punkbuster. I downloaded a etkey online and put it in the correct folder, and installed punkbuster from my old wolfet .dmg…but i see no option, even when i click play online. i tried typing in the command to enable it, but nothing…any ideas? thanks

(wormskull) #27

oh i see…legacy doesnt support punkbuster. but how do i fix the missing pak issue? i cant join any servers, i get the same error.

(Radegast) #28

Don’t use that broken bundle. An experienced Mac programmer has recently started working on a better OS X support for ET: Legacy. He already fixed the aforementioned issues, so you can expect a real OS X release of ET:L which will be compatible all the way from Lion 10.7 to Mavericks 10.9.

ETA beginning of February.

(wormskull) #29

ok cool. but no chance of ever revisiting my favorite servers that use punkbuster w/ legacy?

(Radegast) #30

Nope, sorry. No chance of ever visiting ETPro servers or servers with Punkbuster enabled using ET:L client.

(Grandesjambes) #31

so no way to play ET on Mavericks ? so sade

(twt_thunder) #32

If you have any further questions, catch Radegast or swillits on #etlegacy channel @ freenode.net.

(Radegast) #34

I am proud to announce that we have a dmg image of ET:L for OS X 10.9 Mavericks! Go ahead and try it out: http://etlegacy.com/download

(Furnan) #35

Woooooooooo!!!

A big THANK YOU!!:stroggbanana:

(Patriotqube) #36

Excuse me for beiing a complete newb here

2 questions

are those downloads for clients or servers?
can they be used on a server that Arent running etl?

thanks

(Radegast) #37

The package contains both client and server.

You can connect to 2.60b servers with this OS X client, but only those running Silent, ETRun and Legacy mods (and ETPub if the server has the latest version from repository). NoQuarter (until 1.3.0) and other mods are not compatible with our OS X client unfortunately.

(Dragonji) #38

So basically if you want to play with human players on Mavericks, silEnT mod should interest you.

http://et.trackbase.net/serverlist/

Check filters and “Mod” tab.

(Radegast) #39

I should have mentioned that mod creators can easily make their mods compatible with ET:L client on OS X simply by compiling 32bit and 64bit universal mod binary without powerpc arch support.

The best performing alternative I found so far to run ET on a Mac with Mavericks is to create a bootable external USB drive using a previous OSX version (e.g. Lion). PlayOnMac just did not perform well enough on my late 2008 machine. The downside is that you will need to reboot your Mac if you want to play ET, but apart from that it performs very well.

To create a bootable external OSX drive I just followed these steps: http://macs.about.com/od/diyguidesprojects/ss/usbflash.htm

Boot your mac using the external drive (keep ALT pressed at boot time and select the external disk, DO NOT SELECT THE RECOVERY DISK!).
Install ET and off you go.
