Game won't launch

(bishy) #1

I tried launching DB 2-3 days ago for the first time in a week and suddenly it won’t launch. My steam status changes to in game for a moment but then just goes back to online.

Looks like it’s happened to others before when searching google but their fixes didn’t help me.

Here’s my last launch log as of today if you could help at all: http://pastebin.com/fXReq475

I went to post this on the nexon forum first but let’s be honest… it’s pretty terrible. I can’t even log on there to post.

Failed to initialise NGS. Error code: E1600301

This is likely the problem. Basically the anti-cheat failed to start properly, I’ve heard of this happening in the past for people that use anti-virus software, you could try testing it by disabling anti-virus, verifying the integrity of the game cache in Steam, and launching the game again.

Thanks, disabling the anti virus had it launching again

I already have an exception for ShooterGame-Win32-Shipping.exe, is there any others I can add to avoid disabling antivirus? For instance I couldn’t find an NGS folder or similar to add an exception for their AC. I am using AVG Free btw.

The anti-cheat/NGS stuff lives here: <steam path>\steamapps\common\Dirty Bomb\Binaries\Win32\BlackCipher

The *.aes files are actually executables, when the game launches it runs BlackXchg.aes followed by BlackCipher.aes, at least from my observations, not sure about BlackCall.aes, perhaps it’s loaded internally I haven’t bothered to check that deeply, so you could try whitelisting these.

Also it’s probably worth letting Nexon know about the issue, so they can test with AVG Free, re-compile NGS to avoid this false positive, or whatever they need to do to fix it.

AVG wouldn’t allow me to add exceptions for .aes files, but whitelisting the whole BlackCipher folder has done the trick.

I wanted to post this to Nexon first but when I attempt to login there are no fields to even enter my credentials so it’s a bit difficult lol

Thanks for your help Mustang

Edit: “You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Mustang again.” Bad luck :stuck_out_tongue:
