Game will not launch after patch - Error included

(Carnivoris) #1

After the patch, the game will not launch. It shows up in the process tree for a moment then dies. I’ve found the following error in My Documents\My Games\UnrealEngine3\ShooterGame\Logs\launch.txt

I’ve gone so far as deleting local content from Steam and reinstalling but I still get this error. Anyone know a fix?

(Amerika) #2

@Carnivoris That’s definitely an issue with the new AC. It might be a rights issue.

What I would do is create a new folder. I always have a “Games” directory that I install every game to including Steam games. The reason? Games installed to Program Files can have some rights issues if for some reason the developers need to write to that folder but the processes involved to not have elevated rights to allow for it. Putting your games into a folder that you created resolves this as it’s not a protected OS folder.

If you have a second HD in your PC choose that HD to install your game to as I do not believe Steam lets you install to multiple spots on your c: drive (at least not easily). There is another route you can take but I don’t want to list it here as it would take too long and I’m about to go to bed.

Add me on Steam or talk to me in Scarfino’s stream tomorrow and I can help more if needed. My steam URL is just /amerika.

I don’t have a second drive. Thanks, Amerika, but I’m not going to be going to all that trouble. This is an issue SD needs to fix. I shouldn’t have to go through some process to install it somewhere other than where Steam installs it.

Could you upload more of the log please, I cant see the cause of the crash in the part that you’ve posted

If you have a second HD in your PC choose that HD to install your game to as I do not believe Steam lets you install to multiple spots on your c: drive (at least not easily). There is another route you can take but I don’t want to list it here as it would take too long and I’m about to go to bed.[/quote]

You can create another Steam Library folder under Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders.

Im afraid of the next update, this one totally ruined the game, next one will probably make our pcs explode or something

(aSheepamongWolves) #8

It’s different per individual. Mine runs very good.

This fixed it. This is ridiculous. There’s NO reason I should have to change where a game is installed in order to play it.

Like I said, it’s the reason why almost nobody from my era of PC gaming ever used the Program Files folder to install games. If you buy one of those old games on Steam and install it to Program Files x86 there is a solid chance you’ll run into the same issue. Yes, the devs can very easily fix this issue if that was indeed the problem (not having access rights to write to that folder) so I doubt it will be an issue for long. It’s a new client…calm down

Just make c:\games or similar and install everything to that. All access issues resolved.

Also, thanks @supergonzo. I wasn’t aware of how to make a new Steam install folder using the same drive as I was using the drop down that only lists this option for new drives. So good info to know.
