Game Modes

I know there have been a few game mode ideas thrown around, and since Objective seems to be the primary focus at the moment, I’d like to discuss the following here:

A) Has anybody really given the TDM servers a whirl around here? How do they play? Are spawns random? Do they changed based on the team concentration in an area? Are they fixed to one spot throughout the match? Since my game time on the weekdays is limited to the Phantom NA population (cough), we’ve always jumped around in the Objective based servers. I’d like to get some feedback or set up some TDM games this weekend.

B) Anybody rocked many Stopwatch matches yet? Again, if possible I’d like to see some SW focus this weekend if anybody’s up for it. I’d like to see how the mechanics behave instead of assuming they work.

C) Any other game modes you’d like to see in the future? King of the Hill, Last Man Standing, etc? How would you picture these happening in the existing maps we have? Do you think any of these modes would need their own unique maps to be pulled off well?

A) I tried TDM once, but would love to do it again. I don’t really remember how the spawns worked.

B) We played SW yesterday all night, was quite fun. (I dare say more fun than the objective matches)

C) FFA / CTF / GunGame (FFA - not per team) - purely because they are my favorite gamemodes (apart from SW), I have no idea if they’d work in DB.

Had the opportunity to play a TDM match on London Bridge with a few people tonight. I think we had a few minutes of 3v3. Right now, I wonder if the map isn’t a bit too small for a full on 8v8 but I can’t say without actually experiencing it.

I did like how the map was closed off though… but I can’t say I was a fan of the spawning mechanics just yet. There were a few times I would spawn practically right on top of someone or they on me. I wonder if there isn’t a way to determine where either a) most of your team is or b) where most of the players aren’t.

At first, I was confused why Medics were able to raise players, since normally in TDM’s you would end up feeding the other team (due to low health), but when it was explained to me that it negates a kill I thought that was pretty cool.

The only problem so far is that it’s not overly intuitive that a rez negates a kill, since I still get credit for a “kill” even if they get raised. I know it’s a “Work In Progress” but maybe adding some sort of “Kill Denied!” and subtracting the kill from the player scoreboard would help make it more clear earlier.

Doesn’t CoD or BF have a dogtag mode? This would seem to be similar to TDM in DB as you’ve have to finish off a player to earn a point or help that player up as a med to deny it. Would it work to limit the classes to say 50% Med 50% Soldier per team? Meds give health, soldiers give ammo? How about Soldiers being the only ones that can do the final kills?

Straight DM would be nice, I’ve always thought that servers waiting to fill with players need some sort of sub game mode to play during warmup. Maybe DM or Gun Game would fit that gap.

CTF is nice but I’d like it on symmetrical levels. Is it possible to cut and flip half a map to get a quick CTF map working? Of course I’d expect mappers would come up with their own soon enough.

Coop Horde OBJ mode. We discussed this in another thread. Would be nice to take on some AI enemies (mutants/military) and work through a series of objectives and see how long you can last.

CS/S&D. One life single objective type mode.

I think the important thing to note here is that these modes offer a different playstyle. Some can be quick games, some are no team oriented, some have a simplistic premise but still require team work, some remove playing against others and focus on working with just your team. I think all of those things are important to different gamers and would benefit DB as a platform if they were available.

I’m interested in a team survival mode.
