Game mode : SkyFragger

SkyFragger could be a game mode where you are the objective that should be delivered : it works on the principle of extracting resources, but why should it always be a milk jug or some ammo ? That’s right, let’s say we have to extract people.

More in details, the objective is to help one of the players (one per round) in each team reach the top of a building for helicopter extraction ; the rest of the team is there to protect him/her. Both teams start a few levels under the roof top of a tall building, you have to move to the extraction point on the roof, and kill the “to-be-extracted” player of the enemy team before he reaches it while you move with your “to-be-extracted” player to the extraction point.

Team format : 4 vs 4
Rounds time : 2 to 4 minutes (times the number of player means between 8 to 16 minutes for the whole game)
Combat style : close quarters, traps
Game speed : really fast

This is only a proposition, this idea just popped in my mind like that. Could be fun though and requires little modifications to the game IMO.

Sounds like Counter-Strike VIP maps, which was no good at all. Nope to this.

The reason is because it’s exactly the same as what you propose, except that the element of choice is removed, i.e. who will be the objective carrier.

I like it. The focus is more on a player in stead of a object. Which means you can not just let the “carrier” die. You really have to protect him against enemy fire.

CS VIP was fun, it was only blah after that made the massive armor/health changes and then the VIP would go out and solo the opposing team with a USP hah.

Exactly ! The maps could be easy to create (just use fog under the building), and this is a new approach to “extracting” resources. Now I was not aware of that CS:VIP thing, never heard of it, never played it.

I guess it could be cool to develop a bit the concept, any idea and suggestion is welcome, that’s how you make magic happen :slight_smile:

I got this idea before the prototype execution game mode happened, but it should not be really hard to create this game mode since it’s the same as execution but you have the final objective for extraction. Just reach it, launch a cinematic of the helicopter taking off, and give one point to the winning team.

I hope this will generate some thinking and creativity around here, get some involved if they want to. I’d like to make a map for this too if it happens because it’s way faster than a base race to create :wink:

+1, except I wouldn’t call it skyfragger as that doesn’t really describe what it is, and your concept of getting to the roof of a tall building is only one way this could be done (you might get him from the roof of a tall building to the ground floor where a getaway car is waiting for example). If the game itself wasn’t already called Extraction I’d use that for the game mode, but as it is maybe just VIP or Hostage as that would instantly identify the game mode to the majority of players.

Isn’t this more or less exactly the oil rig VIP mode/map for CS? Start at the bottom of the rig, need to escort him to the helicopter at the top.

his is a exact copy of the TF 1 mode :D.
in TF2 they included a lore instead of a player because it always was a problem that the player often overextend and died :wink:

I agree that creativity is good and should be promoted, but we already have multiple examples from gaming history of modes almost exactly the same as this not working well. Not all ideas are good ideas.

Never said it was, but it could be if realized well. As I said, I haven’t played CS:VIP nor TF1. Just had a though that was creative, I posted it here. Still, if nicely implemented it could be fun. Also new game modes are planned for after release from what I’ve seen, so I know it’s not a priority. Still, had the idea, posted it, waiting for feedback.
