Game Freezes whenever I test map

(Fuse2k3) #1

Im a n00b to making maps, but I did the basic one room tut…I compiled it and saved it as test

when I go to enemy territory I hit the ~ key and type in
/sv_pure 0
/g_gametype 2
/devmap test

Earlier I could load the map, but whenever I pressed the l button to get to limbo it would freeze, I figured out that I needed to add in mapcoordsmins and maxs. I did so, and the mins was -256, 128 Maxs was 960, -1472

When I go to load the map, it freezes on the loading screen and nothing happens…

Also, I included a info_player_deathmatch and red_spawn and blue_spawn,I also included limbo_camera and textured the walls…I added in a light too…Thats about all i did and it wont load…

Max and Min coords must make a square, and this has been covered in all tutorials and asked/answered on here exactly 148 times.

(Fuse2k3) #3

so if the mins were -256, 256 than the maxs would have to be 256, -256?

Im so confused… :banghead:

(ziege) #4

They wouldn’t have to be, but yes that would make a square. If (minx - maxx) gives you the same digits as (miny - maxy) then it’s a square. But like I said, it’s already been asked and discussed lots of times here, use the search button.

(Fuse2k3) #5

I figured it out, I had the coords in a square but I put a comma in the middle of x and y… :blah:

finally i figured it out…and I made a explodable wall

(Fuse2k3) #6

Also, Im not really sure how to find a perfect square so I just took the coords of the corner of the grid…(-66840, 68240 and 66136, -66200)

Not sure if what I did was right or wrong, but nevertheless it worked on the map…

That could cause all sorts of other problems, such as your command map would be virtually unusable since everything would be tiny.

Just draw out a square brush in the top view about 64 units bigger than your map at each edge, use the grid to make sure it’s square, then zoom in on each corner and note the coords. Then delete the brush obviously

I have the same problem but I still can’t get this fixed, my maxs and mins are opposite so it’s a square. I have a blank mapname_cc.tga in levelshots, I have a mapname_levelshot.shader, info_deathmatch, red team spawns, blue team spawns, limbo camera with target, and I compiled the map. Help?

(zethzune) #9

I think part of the problem might be how I’m putting in the mapcoordsmaxs and mins.

Key: mapcoordsmaxs
Value: -760 1280

Key: mapcoordsmins
Value: 1280 -760

(LaggingTom) #10

That’s a rectangle, not a square. Try 1280 -1280 and -1280 1280

(zethzune) #11

I know, I realized that… I got it fixed, feeling kind of stupid right now.

(Ifurita) #12

Why doesn’t anyone use nice simple numbers like -1000 1000 and 1000 -1000

(LaggingTom) #13

Because then you have ugly borders around the CM, duh! Iffy = n00b.

(Ifurita) #14

Simple math that doesn’t crash > squeezing out the extra pixel on the CM image

(CooperHawkes) #15

-760 , 1280 -> 1280 , -760 IS square! ok, it also is a rectangle, but one of the sort with equal sides  LagginTom = n00b himself ;-9

zethzune: The problem is, that you swapped min and max values
