Anyone know what’s causing this?

I’m making a shot in the dark here:

You’re playing on a 4:3 resolution which probably was not extensively tested by the developers, because they are not that common anymore.

The picture you get in the merc selection screen looks like the old buggy character cards, that you can still see in the ingame character selection (3 cards in the bottom of the screen while game is running), when loading up a singleplayer map by opening the console and typing in switchlevel obj_bridge.

My guess is, that for 4:3 resolutions they accidentially load these old icons…

Hmmm, it seems like you’re on the right track @approvingGlow. It’s weird, initially it was working fine. It’s not game breaking but I’d like to find a fix.

I tried switching to a 4:3 resolution on my 16:10 screen to test it, but i’m still getting the correct icons.

I can’t test this to the full extend, because the game automatically picks an appropriate aspect ratio resolution when restarting.

Did you change anything in your ShooterEngine.ini? Like using a custom potato config or something…

I tried switching through all of the different aspect ratios, restarting DB but it didn’t fix it. I’d like to use 16:9 but it just doesn’t look very good on this crappy monitor.
The only thing I can think of that I’ve recently changed was adding colorgrading 2 to my launch settings for Dirty Bomb in Steam. I tried removing that too but it didn’t work either. I think I’ll try and backup my shooterengine.ini, delete it and let DB create a fresh one.

Nope, that didn’t work either. :frowning:

Did you try “verify game files” in Steam?

(pumpaloaf) #7

Good suggestion @spectralQuest, but nope, that didn’t work either. I think I’ll try a fresh shooterui.ini and see what happens there.

goddamnit…nope. That did nothing.

Having gone through all the settings in the .ini’s, i’d rather presume this to be ShooterEngine.ini related than ShooterUI.ini.

If you have made changes to those .ini’s, i’d just recommend renaming them all, have the game re-create the defaults while not loosing your old custom ones.

If you kept an old ShooterEngine.ini between the last updates, it is missing a few lines that were recently added. For example some packages in [Engine.StartupPackages] amongst other stuff. If you insist on keeping custom potato configs between updates, your best bet is to make a file comparison after each update to see what they actually added. A program suitable to do that would be meld.

I backed up and removed ALL of the .ini from My Games\UnrealEngine3\ShooterGame\Config and let the game replace them. Sadly, no change. :frowning: Outside of a full re-install, I can’t think of anything else to try. I’ve submitted a ticket to support but have yet to get a response.
It’s so weird because it was working just fine right after the patch, then POOF! the Redeye icons stopped working. Thanks for trying to help @approvingGlow. I’ll update if I find a solution.

P.S. Meld seems handy, I’ll definitely check that out.

Thank you for reporting this.

Nexon support wrote: Please delete the ShooterGame folder located here “C:\Users%USERNAME%\Documents\My Games\UnrealEngine3” as well as “C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Shooter” then verify the integrity of the game cache.

This worked! It must have been something to do with this part: “C:\Users%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Shooter” because I had already tried deleting everything from “C:\Users%USERNAME%\Documents\My Games\UnrealEngine3” and verifying the integrity of the game cache with no results.

I was even able to reinsert and use my old ShooterUI with no issues. Thanks!
