The detection/revealing feature of the IR goggles is very unreliable. Sometimes you roughly look into the direction and 4 people automatically get detected straight away.
But sometimes you activate the goggles, move your crosshair above the target a couple of times, and it is not detecting.
Since the detection is the only way for your teammates to work through your smoke, i think it should be very easy to detect opponents with it. Basically as soon as you turn them on, every opponent that you clearly see on your screen should be detected. More often than not i have the feeling, i have to move my crosshair above every single enemy for them to get detected.
While ADS, which you have to do with the grandeur to be effective, it doesn’t seem to detect anything really, not even like with the crosshair where you can sometimes enforce detection by moving your crosshair on the target.
I just realized it could be related to the percentage of the opponents body that is revealed.
On late trainyard i just had an enemy above me in the window, of whom i saw maybe 50% of his body height through the window. Activated the goggles and there was no possibility to get him detected. Maybe because of the window bars somehow counting as wall for the detection mechanic? Maybe because the seen percentage of his body wasn’t high enough to count as detection?
Either way, i think what i can clearly see with my own eyes, should definitely be a detection…
