[GAME BUG / BAD DESIGN] Inability to bind backspace key

When binding, the game tells you to press the key to which you want to bind a given function. However, if you press backspace it CLEARS the binding (and it documents that behavior, too). However, this breaks the ability to bind things to backspace. A smarter design would be to require DOUBLE clicking on a given bind-spot in order to activate the “press any key” part that sets the binding, that way you can select each spot with a SINGLE click and then backspace to clear it if you want… but DOUBLE clicking and hitting backspace binds it.

This has been mentioned on the bug reporting forums twice and everyone just acts like it’s ridiculous to want to bind backspace… because they are ignorant to non-QWERTY and other custom keyboards.

The most popular keyboard that demonstrates why this is a gamebreaking flaw is the Kinesis Advantage V2, which has a very wonderful keyboard layout but it places spacebar under your RIGHT thumb, not your left thumb. Your LEFT thumb is over BACKSPACE, so you naturally want to bind backspace to jump but this game won’t let you do it.

I included a picture of the kinesis (you can see the keyboard layout from what’s printed on the keycaps) which is a VERY popular keyboard but which is basically not Dirty-Bomb-friendly. I also included a picture of what I’m actually using, the Ergodox, which is also using the same keyboard layout as the Kinesis… only mine doesn’t even use a QWERTY layout for the main keys, it uses a Workman layout. The point here is that everything about a keyboard layout can change, so defaults for a standard QWERTY keyboard make sense but you need to be extremely flexible too for other keyboards.

You can technically reprogram your entire keyboard layout on both the Kinesis and the Ergodox though it’s inconvenient/hard for most people, and even then that means you’d have a special silly layout JUST for Dirty-Bomb, and that when you try to chat your keyboard keys aren’t what you expect… just to workaround this silly problem.

Can this be fixed? It’s so simple, and because most people pretend everyone uses a standard keyboard rather than something less prone to cause Repetitive Strain Injury, most people don’t understand this need.

Thanks.
