Future Plans for Team Balance?

Hey

I was wondering if there was any plans in the works to improve team balance? Not regarding player skill levels, but to address the 4v7, 1v4, 0v5 games that often happen.

The problem is when people leave the server during the intermission. Often this will leave the teams unbalanced and if no one else joins, one team will have a disadvantage from the get go. I’m sure this is nothing new to anyone.

Ive played other games where players pick their side during the warm up or pick a team preference before hand, those that don’t, balance the teams out.

Thanks

PS. Love the game, this is my only real gripe at the moment.

I’ve talked to Anti specifically over the forums (both here and Warchest) in regards to this topic and they currently only do balance/sorting at the very start of the new lobby after the previous match ends. The reason behind this is they don’t want people to select their merc and loadout based on the side they are going to be playing only to get switched. That’s also one of the reasons why there isn’t automatic sorting during the game.

I personally don’t agree with this as it solves one smaller problem and leaves a bigger one of both skill balance and team size balance. And that concern is also a non-issue for the Stopwatch gametype since you play both sides with the merc/loadout you picked anyway.

I’d rather have teams get sorted during warmup since few will be leaving at this point. And this might cause a small issue with a few players who actually select their mercs/loadouts based on the side while playing Objective mode but it solves the skill/team size balance issues for both Objective and Stopwatch.

That’s my thoughts on the subject anyway.

It tends to fix itself in most games I’ve played like this, but I agree it’d be nice if the game forced a shuffle when teams are 1v4 etc. I, and many people I’ve played with, appreciate the game is more fun with equal teams, and so manually swap when we see it. Some are just happy at the opportunity for a potential free win. Battlefield (I think?) even counts it as a win if you get shuffled off the winning team, so that’s a good possible accompanying change if this happens.

Well…there’s a few realities here

  1. There’s always going to be a difference in skill level, even if the guy is level 10 he still might be from Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and starting out, so levels really don’t mean much.

  2. This game is made for 5v5, anything beyond that muddies up the game and makes it impossible to balance properly. Class spam is literally the most annoying thing in the game, and there’s nothing really they can do to stop it that wouldn’t be equally as frustrating.

  3. The skill level of someone doesn’t always translate to a good teamplayer. Someone could gun game all the time in CS GO for example, and be terrible in match making because they don’t know how to cooperate with others.
