Fun Fact: New Obsidian Arty Skin is Actually From a Very Old Concept

(XavienX) #1

Besides all these ranked frustrations, for you newbies out there who did not know about this fact, the newly released Arty Obsidian skin is actually from an unused skin tested during Dirty Bomb’s time in Alpha and Closed Beta when it was originally named “Extraction”.

Here’s a side by side comparison:

A screenshot from around 2013-2014 wallpaper:

The newly released skin:

Believe it or not, Dirty Bomb used to allow players to change your guns and skins at your own will (not augments since it didn’t exist until Closed Beta) but since I’m not an Alpha player (I started halfway in Closed Beta), I do not know if the other Obsidian skins are actually from early stage developments.

Small correction: augments never existed outside of fixed loadouts. The two concepts were introduced at the same time, so there never was such a thing as picking your own augments.

As for the Fletcher and Stoker skins, if those are designs which date back to the same time as the Arty one, they were never shown to the Alpha / Beta players at the time, so the’re are just as new for us as they are for everyone else. We also never got to try the Arty one until now (probably only used in SD’s internal tests).

Wait so augments didn’t exist in Alpha stages when loadouts were customizable?

Correct.

A lot of unique obsidian models also came from another SD game, Tempo. Some of the founders skins and Arty’s original concept/obsidian were from Tempo.

I wouldn’t be surprised all current mcercs that get an obsidian model change are unused founders cards they decided to bring back. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see new models for all mcercs except proxy,Vaseline, sky as they will be founders only.
