Frost_Comp_b6

(CyburK) #1

as you may know i was asked to make a competition friendly map of my frost_final map. This lead to many changes in the gameplay. the community or whatever it may be called is never satisfied but i didnt give up on makin the map better. it seems they are no longer interested in the map so this version may be the last beta since i want to do other map projects and dont want to change my 1 year old map forever and people dont want to play it anyway.
anyhow some people do like it. here is the link to my website with download link, screenshots and readme etc.

Download link gives frost_comp_b2.pk3 is that correct?

It was also very difficult to find the download link. Can you make it more clear?

(murka) #3

yes hard to find the link but i got b6 not b2

(M8DNanite) #4

Maybe there is another link i didnt notice but clicking on the pic gives b2. Ofcourse i got b6 by editing the link manually.

Running now on gamma.m8d.org

Agreed - mapping for pro players = waste of time (they just want oasis/radar clones ;))

(carnage) #9

i suspect you have never been on the beta list for a decent map. its great to see a map evolve and take form as it moves though the meta stage

In my opinion, the only thing wrong with the original Frost was the exploits leading over the top of the map. Although without it, a small but well organized axis force could probably hold that courtyard indefinitely. I do like the night time look that you are working on for the comp version. I haven’t been able to play it yet online.

In my opinion, it works best if you map for the kinds of maps you personally like to play on. I’m not into the competition scene, so I don’t think I could make a good competition map. There are some competition style maps like supply depot and Raw castle that I think are really great. But I think they were built from the beginning with that style of gameplay in mind. I don’t think I’ve ever played a “competition” version of a larger map that was ever as good as the original.

Never played previous versions of the map but I thought it was rather fun running on a pub, haven’t played in match though so couldn’t make suggestions for purposes of comp’ play.

Regarding mapping for the comp’ scene, yeah its a nightmare but if you work closely with people from that particular group from the go you can eventually get something that gets half accepted like with my own map Wolken1 (3 on 3) and others such as Bremen and Karsiah (6 on 6) as recent examples, notice I say half accepted, I personally think its near impossible to please the competitive community as a whole.

Oasis sucks, and radar should be in supply style :stuck_out_tongue:

The problem with new maps is that there are a lot of them, at the same time you developed the competition version of frost the following maps were released as well:
• karsiah (in the ClanBase OpenCup now, not that popular)
• bremen (in the ClanBase OpenCup now, a bit popular after CPC2)
• wolken_comp (in the ClanBase 3on3 OpenCup now, I like it, others don’t)
• field hq (didn’t make it into competition play)

The competition in making competive maps is strong, and the community only wants the best. In fact, the best already excists, and the competive players don’t really want to switch to different maps. It’s usually the people organising leagues, LANs etc who want changes in the map pool. Maybe your map isn’t that interesting for competition play, but I enjoyed playing it on public servers.
