From what I played at QCon.

I have no problem with the game being released on all platforms as long as each version of the game is tailored to each platform.

What annoys me is when developers try to sell the idea that they are treating all platforms the same when they clearly are not.

The control system and interface in Brink is tailored towards a Console player. You want proof of that then look no further than the simplified 1 button does all system aimed at a Xbox 360/PS3 controller and the fact that the interface is huge, i.e. its tailored towards a console player sat looking at a TV etc.

Other game decisions such as VOIP defualt to off show that SD had no interest in tailoring the game towards PC users because for a PC user that decision makes no sense.

wake up, Brink is and has always been aimed at the console market because thats where the money is. So what if there realeasing the game on PC that means nothing if its just a console port, oh so we’re using the argument that there only shafting us abit so its ok are we?

No Jamieson, you’re just making your own interpretation. SD’s decisions make perfect sense, you’re just labouring under the delusion that you’re a typical PC gamer.

Say that to linux & Mac users. (yes Mac are PC nowaday)

we have not seen the pc controls yet :infiltrator:

All 3 platforms require controller input, why not show it off ? We already know PCs will have mappable controls, show off the ability to do those complex maneuvers with a controller. Splash Damage has already shown it can do KB/M, this is their first cross platform game, they’re likely just showing they can handle both

QFT

[that should be enough characters, dammit!]

I don’t think it’s so much they aren’t willing to try new things as it is they’ve seen similar mechanics employed before with less than ideal results.

The nade thing is from people’s experiences playing with that mechanic and having trouble with moving and throwing.

The one button does all phobia may come from the delay’s people have experienced with using the use button instead of having their tool ready in ETQW. A zero delay implementation would address that concern. But there is also the context thing: I meant to do this but the game thought I wanted to do something different and did that instead. Maybe not a prefect example, but in BC2 the arm MCOM and pick up weapon are on the same key, often you are trying to arm adn MCOM but instead you are just picking up one of the myriad dropped weapons next to the thing.

When you are rezzing someone in ETQW you may be dodging all over before you get to the guy, only looking at him at the last second before you zap him. In brink I guess you throw the health pack, if it is instant, like aiming and shooting, I guess it will work (but I think then I want the use button on my mouse, but it will be fighting for space with one button melee and one button nade).

Hopefully it is perfect “One thing we did was we really nailed the controls”.

I asked before for context binds for weapons, that is because I like to bind my tools and weapon switching to mouse buttons (I have decreased mobility in my left hand). The one button thing may actually be the answer I have been looking for all along and just didn’t know it. That would be awesome, my fingers are crossed.
