FRKN-3k Balance

(ThoughtfulBee) #1

First off, I love the game. With the PSN back up I finally got to play online and I learned the difference between bots and human players pretty quickly. Man what fun.

Anyway, balance has been a big success in this game, and it is very welldone. I haven’t found anything I consider “cheap” yet.

That being said I’m not very good at any of the semi-automatic gun-play. But I do like the FRKN3k, and wanted to roll with it for range, and Galactic or Bulpdaun for normal combat.

But the re-fire time on the FRKN, combined with it’s stopping power make it an assist machine. I know, I know, aim for the head, but if you miss with that first burst then you’re already at a big disadvantage.

So all I ask is, do you think the FRKN has a place with all the other weapons? Am I just terrible with it? Is it underused? I want to “master” it, but I can’t get over the repeated shooting necessary to drop someone.

If you want a gun that you don’t have to fire multiple times to kill a person, it ain’t gonna happen. SD has mentioned numerous times that there is no one shot kill gun(unbuffed). If you do want a one shot kill gun, your best bet is to go with the Barnett double buffed by an engineer and aim for lights, or heads of mediums. Other than that, I don’t know what to tell you. Practice your aim and learn a little patience with guns, maybe?

Its pretty garbage. The fact the fire rate during the burst is so low doesn’t help. It should be a near instant 3 shots, not the lethargic thing it is now.

I feel like in the time it takes to drop someone with two or three dead on bursts, an automatic would’ve already killed you

Due to the artificially forced delay between bursts the Freak is, in its current state, completely useless. I just spent the better part of 2 hours going over the weapons from light through medium and, at least according to the in game stat bars, there is no reason to roll with any AR than the Euston. More on this in another thread I’m making.

You might want to try out a Rokstedi with Rapid Fire Mag and Fore Grip. It’s a solid semi-auto that can burst as fast as you pull the trigger.

Now if only those bars were perfectly accurate…

I’m not asking for one hit kills, or quick kill times. I love SD’s approach to this game, with no one hit kills or grenade spamming. It’s refreshing, it’s fun, the firefights are great and the movement system only makes it more interesting.

The forced delay between bursts is exactly what I’m getting at. It just feels much too slow, and the stopping power forces you to make every burst an upper-torso or headshot. While I do appreciate a good challenge, and honing my gunplay, I’m just not good with semi-auto weapons. Especially ones that punish the user as much as the FRKN3k does.

I was just wondering if it’s just me who can’t find a good use for it, or if the community also sees it as a bit underpowered.

I don’t think you can put a fore grip on the rockstedi.

(peteXnasty) #8

I don’t believe you can, but a muzzle brake makes it as steady as hell…nearly no reset after you shoot.

(Gearbox) #9

My mistake. You’re right. No Rokstedi foregrip.

(crazyfoolish) #10

I think it is meant more as a “softener gun” for taking some health off but not killing. Like the grenade launchers.

(TeaSeeOh) #11

Then it’s ultimately pointless, because there are “killer guns” for killing people, not just taking off small amounts of health.

The FRKN-3K is an awesome gun, along with the Rokstedi, allowing a different feel and playstyle. Unfortunately, it’s awful. Does too little damage, and like someone said, the burst RoF is really pathetic all things considered. I hope in the future this gun gets some looking at or tweaks.
