Friendly Fire
This is the problem though, it splits up the playerbase for quick play, which is never a good thing if it can be avoided (and it certainly doesn’t make “everyone happy”). Right now it wouldn’t even be feasible. In the future perhaps, but I would still be against it personally.

You will not be able to get everybody to agree on this, so why not focus on what we can agree on for now: Friendly Fire for competitive games.
Except that is exactly what many other games have done and it was successful. Yes, currently, the playerbase is to small for that kind of segregation and I too am against it. But it’s possible that eventually it could be done. In other games where it’s a choice, sometimes I feel like playing with FF Off and not worrying about teammates. Other times I find FF On to be vastly preferable. People prefer one or the other at times which is where “everyone is happy” comes into play so I’m not sure how you can say everyone wouldn’t be happy since there would be a server for what they want to play. Unless you’re unhappy that others are actually happy playing the game they want to be playing

FF is a MUST in competitive/MM games.

Couldn’t care less for pubs but there must also be SOME pubs with FF on to get people ready for competitive play.

(Zenity) #23

And more successful games have not done it.

When you feel like playing a more serious game, there is ranked matchmaking (which will be very easy to get into once the playerbase is big enough) which I think should have friendly fire, why is that not good enough? We don’t need super fine-grained control over each aspect of the match we are going to play. All we need is “serious or no serious”. That is my opinion, and I’m sure this will still be discussed a lot, but why now?

I prefer friendly fire, but I admit that it is really hard to switch between FF On and FF Off servers. You have to re-train your brain each time.

Most of the modern FPS population will never support FF On gameplay, unfortunately. The complaints would be deafening.

i thought DB is trying to cater to the hardcore oldschool. Catering to that without FF… not really, esp. a game with so much spam potential.

There is a more successful FPS than Counter-Strike? I have no clue why you chose to write that statement at all as it adds nothing to this conversation while also being hilariously incorrect.

And when is a good time to discuss it? I don’t understand why you think there needs to be an arbitrary timetable on discussing features people would like to see. It’s like me saying that it’s too soon to talk about limiting players down to only choosing 1 merc per match and lets get to work on just merc limitations first.

(Zenity) #27

Funny, I was thinking of CS:GO when I was saying this. There is no friendly fire in casual quick matches, so what exactly are we talking about?

Not an arbitrary timetable, just get it done for competitive first. People who don’t like the idea of friendly fire will be able to try it out, and those who think it needs to be in casual can find out if maybe just having it for competitive satisfies them after all. This should make the conversation a whole lot more constructive.

(Zenity) #28

So they just gave a response to this on the stream, sounds like they want to make it optional and see what players prefer. Fair enough.

FF is a server setting in CS:GO and there is plenty of FF and non-FF servers. There is even a filter for it IIRC and many servers have it listed in their server name. It’s always been this way in CS for well over a decade.

It is definitely arbitrary. It’s your personal whim that we only talk about one thing but not other related topics. I’m OK with the discussion and I’ve already stated that I want competitive FF on personally and given my reasons. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t discuss pub servers getting options as well.

Yes it’s a server setting, but official casual servers for quick match all have it off. Of course I have no problem with this being optional for custom servers (if we ever get them), or even with FF servers being provided for the server browser, it just makes more sense to me to keep it off for casual quick matches.

And of course you can discuss this if you insist on it. I was merely making a suggestion that we focus on what we can all agree on and get that done first, then go from there. I don’t know why this offends you so much, if you want to keep talking about this now you can just do so. I’m not the forum police.

(Rémy Cabresin) #31

Why is this even a discussion? FF off for publics(or on or off for different servers so you can pick) and FF on for competitive play. End of story. Can understand it in public with griefers and idiots, but if you feel like competitive needs to have FF off, you need to go back to Hello Kitty Adventure World…

(Mustang) #32

Last I heard they weren’t happy enough with the griefing prevention/punishment system yet to let FF on be a thing, I’d surmise this is still the case.

Trying to restrict the conversations being had to only your agenda is an attempt at acting like a ‘forum police’ as you put it. At no point was I offended and trying to put that label on me isn’t very cool. I just want the conversation to be had about looking into FF on and FF off servers for pubs similar to what other games in this particular sub-genre has had in the past. And CS has been around with FF Off and On choices for a very long time before there was ever a concept of official servers. It is a very community driven game with thousands of servers and tons of game types. It’s success has not hinged on FF being on or off.
