or, if you put it the other way.
99% of current active player base asks for it…so why not?
Friendly Fire !?!

But what it adds to game? I’m personally against the Friendly Fire because I do not see it’s adding anything greater to game other than extra complexity to team movement and taking attention from focusing the core gameplay itself.
i recommend to try it, instead of theorising and speculating.
now with small maps and chokepoints the game is not a “first person shooter”, but a “first person sprayer”.
When we did play with friendly fire it did make people a tad more cautious and full team multi-kills seemed a lot easier to get in the right situations since there was more friendly damage involved.

I don’t make my statement just by relying on theorizing, this is also my personal experience from the game when FF is enabled. Overall high tempo makes more out of it in my opinion when there’s no variables from being killed by teammates as the match is more concentrated on the core-gameplay or elements that are being tried to offer more attention at. Player agility being one the things that seems to be pushed on getting further highlight in the maps, and to me Friendly Fire appears as variable that destroys choices from players who value their movement because they’re with FF sacrificing some of their movement options with no real reward showing up.
I don’t think CS goes well in comparison regarding the Friendly-Fire. Game has largely different tempo and gameplay outside of shooting parts are largely different.
Course, there’s no right or wrong answer on this part. I’ve much greater experience from Arena Shooters and than from previous SD games in general, so course I might have these biased opinions why I can’t run-n-gun in fashion I was used to, where others might be begging the similar experience from other games they had earlier.
i as well am familiar with arena shooters.
and if we take 2 most popular competitive quake team mods - TDM and CTF. (clan arena is 99% pub only)
one of them has FF on, and the other one has FF off, BUT in quake with FF off, your team can speed boost you, by firing in you back.
If DB had something in “FFoff” aside from “not killing teammates and spraying allover”, some meta game like speed boosting, then no problemo. but now FFoff is just fruitful soil for spray&pray kind of fighting.
There should be at least some penalty involving FF. Even causing visual kick/feedback when being shot by friendlies if damage is out of the question. Heck even causing self-damage when shooting a friendly. Then all your griefers just end up TKing themselves lol. I actually like that idea best.
I love stuff like that
It adds such an interesting dynamic to gameplay. In RTCW you could climb on top of team mates to get a boost over the wall in Beach. I remember doing the same in Jailbreak. This is the kind of stuff I’d like to see experimented with and encouraged - real interaction and team work between players.
Aye you could also boost your engineer to the wall by shooting him in the back while the initial invulnerability was on - sometimes suffered from a few teammates keeping the fire on a tad too long
@Glottis-3D
Fair point, you’re suggesting points what are offering interesting variables to regular “FF Off” settings what would be totally interesting alternatives too. I like the different options too what offers something to without necessarily killing you.
I’m generally really against pure friendly fire because of it’s detrimental value to team and it’s players. I believe if we’re trying to make this game competitive in similar fashion like what LoL, Dota 2 or CS:GO currently is, adding variables what doesn’t focus on core-point of match is taking attention and fun from playing the match and game itself.
And I am already trying to think through other alternatives for this.
It was enough humiliating to be listed as top TK’er in end-game board! :<
at the end of the day, i feel that since we have a semi-realistic game, unlike quake (which is totally unrealistic) - so we need FF on always. because bullets are bullets, fire is fire, explosions are explosions. But we did have Sparks with a weapon that was damaging for enemies, and healing for teammates. So with more futuristic specific weapons we can have some more, that are easy on teammates.
Agreed. It also wouldn’t work being able to blast team mates around the map with rocket launchers (which is as good an argument for realism ruining our video games as any i’ve heard!). Being able to climb on each other is fine, though. Simple, fun, and all about working with team mates. Anything that directly promotes interaction between players like this is worth any no. of passive abilities or counters, or whatever it is we’re going for now. Just simple things like being able to drop an ammo for someone to pick up is great.
I really hope they don’t go that route. Very annoying when you are shooting and someone either mistakenly or intentionally walks in front of you
“x” amount of team damage gets you booted from the server.

Sounds terrible!!!
Silvanoshi said “With Dirty Bomb, we’re looking to target a relatively hardcore segment of the PC FPS playerbase…DB is a game that will appeal to competitive FPS players who’re looking for a shooter in which they can really feel the benefits of investing time into growing their own level of skill and knowledge of the game”
…and then SD calibrate the game with FF off? Sry, but that fact make not any sense to me. For me FF off settings are for newbies only.
Would it be that big deal to run 1 server with FF on settings, just to keep the loyal playerbase in good mood?
Dirty Bomb have a very small playerbase, even though a lot people has got keys.
That should SD and Nexon shows that they arent on the right way with DB.
Anyway, FF settings are not the main problem, but it sucks to play with that FF off settings!!! IT SUCKS !!!
