Friendly fire in competitive, amount of spam and mega-fast gibbing

(KawKaw) #1

Is there any plans to introduce friendly fire in comp games? At the moment, most of the comp games are just spam-classes carelessly spamming their shit without any consideration of team-mates. It is rather annoying to play against spam-heavy teams, when they dont have to mind situations, teammates or basically anything.

Double or even triple fraggers, fletchers or naders can be seen in comp, which makes the whole gameplay experience for seasoned Enemy Territory -veteran feel very strange (not even mentioting players who have played games with no or close to zero heavy weapons), since in ET there used to be class-restrictions and ff was enabled, which was good.
I know this game is not ET, but still, there could be some things that could be introduced in competitive mode, to make it more tactical and not pure explosive hell of nades and fire.

I don’t say remove all explosives, but at least there could be SOME restrictions. That way the overall experience would be more balanced between firearms and other tools of trade. I’ve seen too many fletchers/naders only use their secondary abilities without even touching their firearms.

Gibbing is also really really really super fast, rendering most of the medics slightly hard to utilize in combat-situations. Of course they can heal, but reviving… Don’t revive someone in 0,02 seconds -> patient gets gibbed, revive someone -> patient gets gibbed before standing up. Basically the only situation where reviving is useful, is when someone has died behind a cover, or enemy team is dead or their skill-level is shit-tier.

It propably divides opinions, but mine is that more emphasis on actual first person shooting (as in shooting with guns) would prove to be more satisfying than just throwing stuff that explode the shit out of everything.

It was, it was a bug, and is not funny, okay ? IS NOT FUNNY TO GET KILLED BY YOUR FRAGGER :confounded: they remove it

And is kind of the style of the game, imagine airtrikes with friendly fire, will cause million of deaths all around the world, will be caotic, to have 5 skyhammers getting killed by teammates’s airstrikes

We need friendly fire in competitive !

Play DBN (or similar) pick-up games. They have friendly fire.

(DMaster2) #6

Hopefully it will never be a thing. FF is just terrible.

The only addition FF ever brought to any game is team killing trolls.
We already try to not shoot team mates, because they soak the shots.

The only annoying thing is that friendly team mates can run through the fire of Stoaker. I feel that shouldn’t be a thing.

FF works in a snail game like CS:GO. But not in DB. There is chaos quite often. Even in comp.

Your point? Controlled Chaos vs mindless spam is still a thing. If it wasn’t for FF the gameplay would be vastly different. I shouldn’t be rewarded for being reckless and ignoring my teammates, this is a team game after all. I need to be aware of them as much as they need to be aware of me. This implies no shooting them in the back of their heads just as much as not tossing a nade in their face.

I love FF and would love to see it brought back into MM. Everyone who plays stuff like pugs and higher gets it, and there’s never really chaos if you actually communicate. Don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with killing teammates with reckless spam, good players know where to position themselves so that they don’t take the damage from their own team.

Oh yeah, and lets not forget that it turns Sparks into a ridiculous healer.

Bad players will die, they’ll have to learn.

Having FF on would bring such a chaos that it worries me a bit, but the game gains so much in terms of strategy & tactics that I can’t wait for it to be activated…

FF is great but not for public match making. You would get way to many trolls. FF is organized comp is awesome. Medics get a lot more fun to play when you can purposely TK you teammate to rez them with higher health.

Have faith in FF.

Not only will I continue to burn enemies, but I will get some pride burning my allies too.

More seriously, what worries me is if I throw a molly, there will always be that special kid that will try to jump other it and get killed, resulting in a penalty for me.

People will also start being a douche, and is so annoying if you get killed by a teamate, there is nothing that you can do to not die,is not like you can dodge if he is shooting at you, or if a random airstrike hits you. Make a private match with 8 vs 8 skyhammers and you will see

Because FF doesn’t fit with many abilities in this game?
You do realize, comp with FF will be a ghost-town even more than now besides some hardcore teams like yours?

(CCP115) #16

FF would be OK, but it would have to be reduced damage, like CS:GO. You can’t one shot a friendly with an AWP in CS:GO, so it makes Friendly fire slightly less deadly.

FF is a great idea to avoid spam and careless air strikes, nades and molotovs.
At the moment you can throw a molotov in a room stopping the enemy from progressing while all your mates can jump into your fire and take the room. Same if your mates are in a combat and you carelessly just throw nades into the mix at their feet to help them.

Also there should be a restriction so that you can’t pick a merc that someone in your team is already using. This would stop having to play vs. a team of 5 naders or 5 fraggers for example like it happened the other day. In cups your team can’t use 2 of the same mercs, why not make it the default option in competitive?

Both of those implementations would definitely make you need more communication and teamwork with your team mates.

Ever been in an FF war? Meaning: one player accidentally shoots a team mate, then the team mate has to “retaliate” and before you know it, two allies do nothing but shooting each other.

FF is horrible in pub matches. Never ever put it in.
