Friendly Fire - Complaints

([TL]BatMan) #21

The games just like any other online game it has tons of IDIOTS. They are going to walk on your mines run in fornt of your fire and into an airstrike and complain. :bash: Its dips that don’t understand how to play that seem to do it most, good players understand. Don’t get me wrong I file every now and then but not for my stupid mistakes. I ref our server and still get a complaint from these NooBs but there I can handle it. First time I usually say WTF dude you just stepped on my mine in plain sight. The next time they do it I type /ref kick <client#>. :bump:

Just to clarify, Punkbuster is an independent piece of software not related to the complaints system or even ET, PB looks for cheats such as aimbots, wallhacks or other outright cheating methods. The complaint system is internal to RtCW:ET. ET uses PB, but PB is a product from evenbalance (http://www.evenbalance.com).

That said, I’ll add that I have no problem with newbies, in fact, I quite enjoy seeing newbies try a game. I go out of my way to keep them alive and let them get a taste of and for it. So the issue isn’t with newbies as such, the problem is poor complaint etiquette, which is more common amongs newbies for obvious reasons.

Also, its not immediately obvious that those little flags are mines; takes at least 10-20 mins and a few deaths to find out.

I know I fired on some of my teammates (unintentionally; those uniforms look the same at a distance) but didn’t kill any.

Agree with the flags, but that’s something newbies will have to learn though. Perhaps Splashdamage could introduce a line like “You stepped on teammate X’s mine” instead of “You were killed by teammate X”, that would probably reduce some complaints.

Accidents happen, and that’s important to remember. Newbies have to learn to hold their shot until they’ve confirmed the identity of their target, experienced players have to learn some patience for when newbies mess up.

I file complaints for obvious TKs, and repeated gross negligence, nothing else. A newbie trying will never see a complaint from me. Gross negligence might be placing mines in dangerous places over and over again, or throwing artillery too close to the team several times.

Care must be taken to reduce the risk to teammates, so a complaint or two might make the sloppy aimer straighten up. That said, sometimes things go wrong: My example above with a teammate running into my line of sight when placing artillery is a prime example. It is a honest mistake that arty was placed in the base instead of on the enemy, it doesn’t validate a complaint. Next time I move to higher ground away from the crowd before I target arty, if I didn’t and misplaced it again, then yeah, that’s negligence and I deserve a complaint.

Other examples of negligence:
Using panzerfaust/flamethrower in close quarters killing teammates repeatedly while attempting to hit enemies…
Setting up a MG42 when your entire team will be in front of you…
Not confirming where mortar actually hits…
Placing arty/airstrikes too close…
Placing mines just around corners etc where teammates are more likely than the enemy to step on them…

And a ton others. Basic rule: Watch your own fire and remember that accidents happen when you get TKed.

This thread is more difficult to find than the Enemy Terratories demo, so ET will be taking some of the strain of introducing people to Punkbuster.

Is the a site with basic info about ET? Such as the differences between the soldier types?

Again, PB is a different beast altogether (which imo, still deserves to be explained to newbies, how about a update PB button ingame?)

Try this site for info: http://www.rtcwonline.com/dummies/

Without newbies, frustrating as they/we are, there is no game; no one starts off a vet/skilled player.

Indeed, welcome to the game :drink:
