I hope they never implement FF in pubs, I think it’s just for competitive, I know people would get salty in pubs.
I think we need both kind of servers for pubs.
some people like it and some don’t .
I would never enter a pub again if friendly fire was in comp only.
no risk, no fun, friendly fire on please
maybe 50% damage on teammates if it’s just too easy to kill teammates accidently
maybe also no FF with melee weapons, since that seems to happen quite often when gibbing
if people can choose they don’t get salty i guess
team collision has too happen if FF would be on in any way. Too often teammates walk ‘through me’ for my nades to bounce back at my face.
FF was on for pub server in Wolf ET and ETQW, and I miss it a lot !
Works perfect against spam fest !
And yes player collision please ! feel weird as it is now.
There should be 3 “types” of servers IMO
PUBS:
Novice/Beginner Only Levels 1 - 5 (FF and Collision OFF)
Normal/Standard All Levels (FF and Collision OFF)
Advanced All Levels (FF and Collision ON!!!)
Ranked MM
Level 5 and Up (FF and Collision ON!!!)

Would prefer something like lvl 8-10 for ranked actually.
Keeps cheaters and smurfs out. Don’t know how effective, but i can imagine it helps.
but i like the 3 types
Those 'nade bounce-backs make me want to scream.
I was hoping for friendly fire at only 30/40% to open up some more trick jumping possibilities. Getting launched by a 'nade/mine (and surviving) is quite exhilarating.

hmmm, not bad but I would love to see something like that:
Novice/Beginner Only Levels lvl1 - lvl7 (FF off and Collision off)
Normal/Standard All Level (FF off and Collision off)
Advanced lvl10+ (FF on and Collision off)
Advanced lvl20+ (FF on and Collision on)

FF and collision have to go hand-in-hand!
Otherwise you’ll have teammates running through your player model while you are shooting enemies, dying as they do so

I disagree
Point 1) Level dont determine skill
Point 2) Good Players will avoid non-FF and non-Collision
Point 3) Dont want to split the player base too much
3 Levels should be enough. The casual shooter can stay in their Normal/Standard Server. Call it a graduation once they get past level 5 or 7… They can then have fun in the large spam zone of a 8v8 OBJ server…
FYI I played in the streams yesterday and 8v8 OBJ was unbearable! Especially if you are trying to win. If you are just going for frags then it is perfect.
When you click the pub QUE a little window should pop up and say Beginner or Advanced. It will then place you in the right server by region hopefully.
I don’t get the ‘pub players wouldn’t be able to cope with FF-on’ mentality. No-one had an issue with it as a ‘level 1’ Quake player :).
Level doesn’t indicate skill but it indicates experience and hours played. I want players to have experience when they decide to throw an airstrike in a specific location. I definitely want accounts to have hours played when they are temp banned from FF servers for griefing.
You’re missing the fact that there’s loads of people who are above level 10 and still clueless. Jumping into FF servers by then (or whichever level) will have exactly the same effect as doing so at level 1, i.e. throw one or two airstrikes, wipe your team, get shouted at, realize your stuff hurts allies, look around before using said stuff again.
Friendly fire is NOT a confusing mechanic, unless you only played indie games before and never actually heard of any real life war stories. Or have no imagination whatsoever, but I can’t fathom why any game dev would feel ambitious enough to fix that particular problem. If we’re worried about teammates meatgrinding other teammates, then just use explosive FF, that’s been proven to work before.
There could be friendly fire pubs, just not every one. And then need a way to prevent abuse, which does exist in the form of vote kick, but could also be improved. Chivalry does pretty well, when you tk someone it shows the player who you killed the % overall damage dealt to friendly players. So it helps expose someone who has an abnormally high damage as abuse.
On one hand FF and collision need to happen, on the other some seem its too much for pubs. I got the idea SD would like pub play to be as close to comp as possible, but this is naturally heading to a nasty split that will make them play very differently. There is too much player babysitting on public servers, the game seems to mild and forgiving most of the time and the fear of a “over complicated system” scaring new people away is kind of putting the guys who expect something more out of DB off.
