freezes on awaiting challenge when testing map

(al3x) #1

hi im new to making maps and i just started working on a simple boxmap but for some reason when i want to test the map out, ET freezes on awaiting challenge. before i loaded the map, i did
/sv_pure 0
/g_gametype 2
/devmap boxmap
i can’t seem to figure out whats wrong. it just stays on the awaiting challenge, at first i thought it was loading but i waited 10 mins, the computer seems busy but it still won’t load. ctrl-alt-del shows it as “not responding”.

also how do i figure out the right amount of max/mins coords to use?

I can’t help you with your first problem but for you second one place the mouse over the top left of your map and take down the co-ordinates shown at the bottom of the page, these are your minimum. Do the same for the bottom right these are your maximum. It won’t do any harm to add a little on to the coordinates to stop it from freezing in limbo

ok thanks.
one more thing, this may sound stupid but im a bit confuse when people say “Make a box that is about 256 x 256 units”. does that mean go where the x is 256 and the y is 256 and then drag your box to whatever other coords u want?

-Press “P” (for preferences)
-Go to the -Display section.
-2D Display/Rendering
-Check “Display size info” (the little square should be pushed in)

This will add the size next to the brush. This way you can see what size box you are making.

Hope this helped.

sweet thanks. that helped a lot. now i have problem, i created a pretty big map compare to the simple boxmap. when i compile it, i get a map leaked in the log window. in the 3d window, it shows my info_deathmatch pink box with a red line pointing outside my ground. what does that mean and how can i solve this?

All your entities needs to be enclosed in a sealed space.

I don’t know if it’s still this way in ET but if your map is surrounded by brushes with a Caulk texture it won’t seal your map. Your map neeeds to be surrounded by solid textured brushes.

The red line will show you were the leak is. As stated in previous post All your Map must be enclosed in a sealed world box for it to compile. Follow the red line and move or delete the offending error.
