Free weekend players don't have the DLC maps

Honestly, I despair. Surely the download from steam for free weekend players should have included ther DLC maps without them haveing to work out how to get them seperately.

As it is now, every time server loads either of the new maps, it pretty much empties. So the choice is, disable the new maps so that free weekend players don’t get booted and think WOW, wtf! OR leave them in for the regular players who are playing again because of the DLC.

are they not included? there’s a good number of people on ps3 that dont have the maps either (and all that’s required is a visit to the PSN store, free download and all). same thing happens. if the host (p2p) doesnt have them, they’re not even an option, and when the new maps are picked, some players are gone when the map starts up (of course, there’s a ton of people on right now, so they fill - but there must be a number of people who just dont add the content, for whatever reason - dont care - dont realize - didnt know -etc)

Not yet placed the new maps into server…probably wait till DLC becomes chargeable & watch server populations

You could put a big MOTD up telling people to get the free DLC from steam to enjoy the maps… might help with the WTFness at least.

Oh My DrDeath, can you please turn on vote kicks on the Oh My Brink server during the free weekend? A whining noob going postal just ruined a match for us, and no way to kick him.

I really wish there was some teamkiller autokick mechanism, rather than the team damage xp penalties - they’re worthless against intentional teamkillers anyway :frowning:

Yeah they should have done this DLC download thing different.
I went into one server today and yesterday of the old maps just to tell people about the new DLC and maps and how to get them, 90% of people did not even know about them and the other 10% didnt know you had to go to the DLC steam store page and hit install!

Should just do an automatic download update for everyone that has brink, because sooo many people who are trying the free weekend and TONS that bought the game either dont know about the new maps or dont know how to get them!

I can but would have to restart server.

Ok, will do when next it loads the new maps and server empties! (again)

The dlc is free for 2 weeks, if you download it while the game is free then buy it later you are scamming SD out of their money. If you want the game and the dlc, buy it and the DLC will be free. It’s not that much of a difference TBH, 2 attachments and a couple levels… if you like brink then it’s worth the buy, if you don’t then you don’t get the free maps.

The maps are free for 2 weeks because it’s an apology to the loyal members who stuck it out through the games rocky start. Consider yourself lucky you have the option to get it free if you buy the game even though you didn’t buy it at launch.

Actually guys, both the game and the DLC are free to play over the weekend. The problem is that when the new folk download the game they don’t realise they have to go and activate the DLC, restart the game and/or steam to get the DLC as an additional download.

So, server is full with new folk playing the game for free (which is good) but as soon as the DLC maps load they are booted. (because they have not downloaded it and don’t realise they have to make an additional download to get it)

Given that the DLC is just out, people who own the game want to play that. If you run a server, you have to make a choice, piss off the new folk or piss off the guys who own the game :smiley:

In my opinion, that looks bad for the game (not to mention the server).

What more proof do you need that the DLC should have been a straight-up free update? Was there any forethought whatsoever before this went down? I wouldn’t be surprised if some criminally stupid “boss” thought common sense and obvious good choice was bad for biz. The free weekend and DLC coming together to needlessly empty servers after finally showing signs of life.

Sadly, I have to agree. However, making the best of it I have put instructions on how to get DLC on server splash screen for the free weekend players and left the two maps in the map rotation for those who have it. Server is empty :frowning:
