So this has been on my mind for a bit so I wanted to create some discussion around it ( although thinking about it there’s probably already a forum post somewhere with the same topic).
In any case, with Dirty Bomb being such an objective focused game, do you guys think SD should include an engineer as part of the 3 starter mercs? You don’t need me to tell you how many pubs you’ve been in where there’s like 4 people arming c4s or repairing the EV at the same time. From what I recall, the tutorial does not tell you about objective repairing and objective specialists, since your starter lineup only has a medic and a fire support. IMO I think that SD should include Proxy as the starter engineer, add an engineer section to the tutorial, and give everyone who previously owned Proxy back 30k. I believe that this could better educate new players about objective play and also have a well balanced merc crew for every new player. As for the bundles that include Proxy I would suggest either replacing her with another 30k merc or just replacing her with 30k credits. So what do you guys think? Like I said this has probably been brought up before, but since I haven’t seen it around I just had to put up the discussion. So good idea or bad? Do you think it could work?
Free starter engineer?
I agree with tutorial about engineers. I also kinda agree with free engineer. But you miss one thing here - free engineer already exists in a bit different way you imagine: free rotation. It always has engineer in it. So I suspect if they make Proxy free, they may simply remove one merc from free rotation.
I also doubt about getting credits bac in case they make one engineer free because it’s same situation that was with Phoenix give away. Credits may just be replaced with some cases, load outs and such stuff.
This is a very good idea.
Make Proxy available for all, and compensate people who have already unlocked her with either credits or some cases.

While I have taken the free rotation into mind there is some issues I see with it. While yes, the rotation always include a engineer for you to play, but you still don’t technically own that character. I just feel that having an engineer by default let’s players get used to always having an engineer on hand and also used to playing at least one engineer. It also means that you wouldn’t have to switch up your engineer’s playstyle simply because the rotation changed and you went from Bushwacker turrets to Fletcher stickies.
nope, I think 2 support mercs is the best way to start/learn, supporting team mates is the core of gameplay
but I agree there should be tutorials for each class and a practice area
Let’s not forgot, ALL mercs can plant C4/repair objectives. I dont think there should be an included merc because all players should be helping the engineers whether it be covering the engineer or repairing it yourself if the engineer dies or there is no engineer.
Definitely expand the tutorials a little.
Idea is nice but low priority because there is ALWAYS an engineer in the free rotation.

Or rare obsidian card like with the phoenix thing, yum yum. I would be happy with that, even though I don’t care about the cosmetics xD.
If a starter engineer was added, I think Turtle would be the most likely choice, as his abilities are more passive and probably much less annoying en mass than the other engineer’s abilities.
