free roam

(SGT.Bilko) #1

Is it free roam or do you choose certain missions and it takes you to certain places.

(tokamak) #2

Yes, it are separate individual missions (linked as a storyline) as opposed to having one big city to walk around in.

Has it been confirmed that all the missions will be linked as a story line? I am curious if it will just be like QW style where nothing is really connected and its essentially random battles with shallow plots. Would be nice if it was a continuous story though.

I’m pretty sure the campaign is all connected, complete with cutscenes for explaining the story as you progress. If it didn’t have any real "plot’ and were kinda just strung together, you wouldn’t really know what to think of each faction and their reasons for fighting.

One of things I would like to feel like I know for a fact, but all I can remember is the vague hints we get about everything . I know for sure that they said each side thinks they are the “good guys”, but it would be nice if we eventually found out what the intentions of the guys at the top were. A progressive story would also be great, but I really wonder if we will see one. I doubt there would be cut scenes in the MP (most likely will separate Co-Op/SP from MP if there are).

well, they said this about cutscenes -

If you’re playing solo, you’ll see the same guys in the opening and closing cutscenes. If you’re online, the guys in the cutscenes will actually be the characters of the people you’ll be playing with.

so online cutscenes look promising. Plus, they were talking about using the ‘warmup’ time for a place to put cutscenes.

Interesting. I can see cutscences in MP getting pretty annoying after a while if not timed well. If I don’t have to wait 5 min between each objective to watch the same narration over and over, it might be cool. I’m all for an optional warm-up cutscene though.

(H0RSE) #8

they said they were only like 30 secs or so, to avoid waiting and taking away from the action.

They said that cutscenes were short enough that people who have seen it before will be happy to still rewatch it.

They also said that when lose a battle, your team moves to another server to play against a team also at that stage, whereas the winning team continues on to the next battle on the same server - this to me indicates progressive storyline.

Nothing at all will change between online mp and offline sp. They have said this over and over. The cutscenes will be the same, the story progression will be the same. The only difference will be the play styles. But even then, they have said that the original playtesters weren’t able to reliably tell when they were playing against bots or people - so good AI here we come!

I am guessing that’s just for consoles? I don’t see the need to move the losing team to a different server at all.

(Nail) #11

maybe a typical cutscene should be next video ?

(H0RSE) #12

I see at as “losers walk.” Winners get to stay, losers take a hike.

(tokamak) #13

They’ll need to play the mission again if they want to proceed in the game, so they can’t stay.

+1.000.000.000

(LyndonL) #15

No consoles don’t have servers at all.

I assume that if you are playing on a server against a bot team (what I plan on doing on a private server with my friends), if you lose you will still stay on the server.

(Qhullu) #16

i’m pretty sure that only happens if the server is in some kind of story mode which can be turned off. otherwise clan matches could only be one map long, and in publand it would make creating a collection of favorite servers useless.

(light_sh4v0r) #17

I’m sure a regular maprotation will be available. I’ll probably play through the storymode once (maybe even offline or in coop) and then join a good server.

(INF3RN0) #18

Seems a bit ghey. I’ll opt for the servers with this type of rotation set to “off”.

(tokamak) #19

That’d be the non-campaign servers, no problem. It’s just for the people who want to finish the campaign in multiplayer.

I can’t think of where I read this–it might be the same interview as te one above–but I’m sure someone at SD said that the cutscenes are in MP, but if you don’t feel like watching them you can spend that time setting up your loadout and class. Furthermore, from the container city preview it seems that players have control during cutscenes; ie they’re in game scenes, not static.
