Frankfurt Brink hands on (Review)

(ClickClickBOOM) #1

Translated from a german post. This guy who was picked by ESL has had the luck of playing Brink today in Frankfurt. Obviously he is trying to see whether this game has the chance to become competitive or not.

played it today on xbox but this game has potential.

a positive aspect in contrast to ET:QW is that you can control the game with smaller teams. personally i think a 4on4 is enough to play this game competitively. The maps we played were rather small.

in contrast to the mainstream opinion that there is no recoil… there is!
the enemies were easier to take down than in ETQW if you aimed properly (isnt that easy with a controller)

the bodytypes are pretty balanced though the heavy was slightly OP on console since you dont move that much in general. However it can be different on PC

buffing is easy to perform and the objectives are mostly self explaining. a beginner should be able to get the hang out of the game quickly.

you can gib with the melee attack, which had to be patched in ETQW.

the demo and spectator option are working without any problems according to the devs but I forgot to ask about the SDK tools.

So far this game has potential for an e-sport title
roughly translated.

The demo option? Like recording? Didn’t know that was in… is it for every platform? How does it actually work? Can I set it to record any game?

(3Suns) #3

Thanks! Very interesting impressions. All sounds excellent!

4v4 - fascinating!

Demo and spectator options (for PC only I am sure) but awesome nonetheless!

(ClickClickBOOM) #4

demo option as in recording. i have no idea how it works but i guess on pc we will have our dev console with /recorddemo

(crazyfoolish) #5

How does the demo record option work exactly? Is it similar to recording a gameplay clip with fraps or is it more akin to theatre mode?

(Schwarzeis) #6

Well this was interesting, a ‘‘theater’’ mode? :stuck_out_tongue:

(trigg3r) #7

oh so there is going to be demo recording, that’s great news imo

(H8tz) #8

canyou post your source please?

Isn’t that dependant on the player?

That has gotten my panties in a bunch… A LOT freaking harder to wait for the 10th… ugh…

I can’t imagine what the blokes across the pond feel…

(Protector) #14

Already got it gifted from a yank friend see you on the 10th

(mestido) #15

Any videos from Frankfurt’s event?

(Mustkunstn1k) #16

If you are on PC though, then you have another thing coming for ya.

(Protector) #17

Whats that???

(murka) #18

Wasn’t demo recording confirmed long ago when someone from SD said something along the lines: “How do you think we do our internal tests?”. It’s quite obvious as a development tool and it isn’t much of a step to go for everyone to use it.

(FeloNYC) #19

Wait I’m a bit lost…is he referring to features in the console or PC version? Recording and a spectator mode? If he played the 360 version, I’m wondering how smooth the gameplay was also.
Can’t wait for this game, hope a mom and pop store sells it early here in NYC!

I’m hoping if they have it working in console, that they’ve did some nice upgrades to the demo system to make a little more ‘movie maker’ friendly. I’m guessing fraps is in there somewhere, for the default built-in capturing… but also expecting avidemo support for those that want to use it.
