Yes i was thinking this before, but with brink and its movement system, there is a huge opportunity to just show tons of cool mid wall jump kills etc etc etc that people wont have ever seen before, and that would attract all the other montage and commentry makers to start doing them for brink in the future, and their fans would hopefully follow
Frag movies as official promotion
Granted but especially with such new movement system people would be unable to tell where the system end and the player’s skill begins.
perhaps something like the cinematic trailer but with in-game footage.
the idea is nice.
but these movies are so popular because people that already play the game and wanna compete with others wanna see what these good guys can do.
you wont get anyone to watch these frag movies unless he is already interested in the game.
Im not checking out halo/killzone and so on frag movies as im not a console player.
I have the consoles, but im just not interested.
why would I watch the movies.
these movies only work if you already have the attention of the people.
that said, I would really like to see the REAL gameplay of brink combined with the developers voice explaning what is going on.
right now we have some random guys playing with gamepad, taking everything as slow as possible so everyone, even the noobs, understands what is going on.
this slows down the game soo much.
they should just play it like it is supposed to be played…
but right now they play it slow, standing around doing weird things like using the objective wheel like 10 times to show how it works instead of showing how the game works…
Totally agree, however, ideally these videos would be used as official promotion either pre release or just after release date when everyone is searching for videos of brink to see if they should buy it or not. This factor i feel would overcome the problem of people not wanting to watch frag movies of games they dont play, as they would be using it as a method to evaluate a potential purchase as opposed to pure entertainment. And would get the views…i mean anything released by splash damage on youtube gets put up by machinima and the last couple of videos on brink have got over 300, 000 views, so if splash damage were to support it, then it would ensure an audience (as opposed to someone just randomly posting a frag movie on their individual channel)
Also these would be used in addition to other vids, in order to cater to all audiences, as at the moment only the new players are being catered to.
And ofcourse, it would be some of the first gameplay released of brink. Any initial gameplay of a new or unreleased game from an official source gets monster hits, especially if its very entertaining as a well made frag movie/montage would be. I just always feel that the initial first gameplay up on youtube for games that always gets millions of views is just some new player running around doing something simple and badly as they are new. How much more effective would the first footage be of some pro doing some insane stunts and kills.
THERE BETTA BE A DEMO REPLAY SYSTEM SD! On another note, frag movies are the main way I check out a game. Game trailers rarely tell you anything you want to know, and although it can be hard to tell if someones frag movie is good/bad, you get a lot more out of it either way. I watch frag movies for plenty of games I don’t play as well. When I link someone info on a game to try, it is in the form of a frag movie too. Top tier players will show you how the game actually plays in its highest form, and you can usually tell what their skill is when you find a million other vids of LinkinPark+Bots… lol. Either way it’s a good idea, would be nice if SD had some video contest type events to spike the effort (common in other games) and feature winners on the main page or something. Countless times frag movies have peaked gamer’s interest in a game or even brought previous players back online :).
Not true at all. I’m pretty anti-CS/Halo, but I enjoy highlights from those games.
I love well done frag movies. They usually do a good job of showing off a player and editing, but they also make me want to go play the game myself because of the hype. The only way I could see this actually done is just making a montage of exciting moments in the game. However this is usually accomplished in a simple trailer.
I wouldn’t mind seeing it done, but I don’t really see it as a good marketing technique.
This would work even better if they got somebody like Hutch and some of his friends to do it. Somebody or a group of people with quite a few subscribers on Youtube. Get them to post it on their channels and voilà you’ve got yourself another 10K views.
Yes. Seananners carries a lot of weight. Get the machinima respawn guys to do something.
Indeed, every time i see an etqw frag movie i pretty much have to find my way to a pc with it installed in the next hour…or **** explodes
Ya, I agree with you.
+1. Watching Frag videos makes people excited and want to do better like the guy in the video. But I guess it’s the reality that not everyone can be like the guy in the video that the other guy was referring to.
Still, regardless, I guess that’s the problem with games lately is about the sad reality that we’re trying to make everyone feel all warm and fuzzy and be able to play with eathother.
In all honesty frag vids are very helpful for drawing attention but the things that are happening need to be identifiable. So someone who is watching isn’t spending the whole time scratching their head.
i mean just look at how many quality tf2 frag vids have been made since the games release and it really does help the scene

same thing every time, planting dyno then halfway winning a fight against poor AI,
then mixing in CG’s, and the over emphasis of the “storyline” and how it’s so different this time.
Something like the OP suggested would far out-do the current.
Imagine seeing something the Ultraviolet Trailer for ETQW on tv pre-release.
