FPS Problem, Bad one.

Is this too when you just see a player?

and does the server you play on has changed models?:stroggtapir:

(Arm0r) #22

It happens in spectator mode and in regular game, even when players arent around like I can look down and my fps jumps to 125 and sticks there, the second I look up and slowly look around my fps will go 125-20-20-125-20-20…dirext x 10 installed as well, did that first day I got my comp

(Arm0r) #23

also there is a map, not sure the name of it, but you spawn in a somewhat dark room and there are little lights on the pillars…when I look around it’s 125 but the second one of those lights come into view it drops to 20 so I think that has something to do with it, the way my computer is rendering it… I already have dynamic lighting disabled n such as well so I dunno how to remedy that.

maybe do some benchmarking to asure your GPU is capable to handle this game with opengl -> for example run timedemo at quake3
according to newegg, your laptop screen is 1366 x 768
Maybe try setting
r_customheight 768
r_customwidth 1366
r_mode -1

what warren said might help. Updating directx might help aswell, some parts of et in windows use directx afaik - maybe totally wrong.
since you get only troubles in firefights, it should be worthy to check if its graphic related or not.
If you are spectator does the fps also drop in a firefight scene?
tried this, the gameplay is much smoother, still the huge fps drop but thanks for this tip.

(Arm0r) #26

Here is a pretty good guide, check the ‘Show me How’
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

Here is a full help with many infos:

Probably you want to keep your windows, so make sure you have enough hd space free, to install ubuntu on top of it.
Basically you need to get the Media, Download Ubuntu, burn it onto a Disc.
Then you can afaik either install it from windows, or reboot from the disc and install it.

Ubuntu will take care of your windows, though Murphy’s law is hitting - so be sure to have a backup (Thought till now I never had a problem).
It will reorganize the hd, Its a good idea to first use Scandisk on your harddrive in windows, then clean your windows, then defragment your hd. Then start with ubuntu installation.

Then installing ET is a joy

edit: Did you check in Bios setting if you can increase the minimal vram size?
edit2: Did you try drivers from intel?
