FPS optomization

(PenguinHorde) #1

anyone know how to get best fps quality in this game while retaining as much beauty as possible?

here are my specs
graphics: geforce gtx 770
cpu: intel xeon cpu e3-1230 v2 @3.30GHz
*mobo: ASRock Z77 Pro3

my monitor goes up to 144hz though i would be happy with a constant 120.

currently with everything set to high i run at 40-80 fps depending on were i am

EDIT: at lowest settings i get 60-90 fps O.o wut

I’m going to take a guess and say that you’re being bottlenecked by your CPU here. No config will save you, or not by very much. Either overclock it - if that’s even possible - or replace it.

(PenguinHorde) #3

@Ghosthree3 does dirty bomb not support multiple cores?

(Ghosthree3) #4

Of course it does, but like all games it benefits from less, but stronger cores more than more cores. Most games only use up to 4 cores at most, so your hyper threading is completely useless. Best to turn it off but crank up the power.

(aRagRappy) #5

I may be wrong but I heard some where dirty bomb only uses 2 cores by default and you have to explicitly tell it to use more

(Ghosthree3) #6

Wouldn’t be surprised, 4 is actually rare. And if they do use 4 only 2 really have any load.

(XavienX) #7

Pretty sure you’re fine, I run with a freakin GTX 260, near max settings with 60 FPS on resolution of 1920x1200.

(TheDoctorHax) #8

that cpu will NOT bottleneck that gpu… not even close. This game is just not optimized yet so theres nothing he can really do.

(Ghosthree3) #9

Yeah you’re right, there’s no way a CPU designed for a server will bottle neck one of the latest GPUs on the market that uses an rendering engine designed 11 years ago.

its a xeon, yes it is designed for server use but that does not mean that it will be bad at gaming. also the 770 is NOT the latest, in fact it is fairly old. if like some people are saying dirty bomb only uses 2 cores then that would be an issue with the xeon, as it has less powerful individual cores. but even then those 2 cores would be used explicitly by dirty bomb and then the other cores could be used to process gpu requests. there is no reason in hell that a xeon would bottleneck the 770, a card that was released in EARLY 2013!

(Ghosthree3) #11

This is the issue, yes.

A 2013 high end card can absolutely handle rendering stuff from a 2004 engine. Adding to this I know the 770 isn’t bottle necking because I have the same card and can hold 144fps at max settings. It’s very possible there’s something else that could be hurting fps, but it’s generally one of the two, and a low power server cpu just screams out as the culprit here.

(RuleofBooKz) #12

you have everything set to high. set everything to low.

all fixed

@Ghosthree3 Uhm DB while a UE3 game uses quite a few visual effects that are fairly modern and were not part of the orignial engine in 2004. (like the strong use of dynamic lights, PBR materials bump/normal mapping and quite a few more). But since you have first hands experience with that card I’m not gonna question wether it has problems with those or not.

As far as FPS goes, well if you want more than what the all low settings give you. You could try a potato config, game looks like shit tho.
But as the rest points out it could very well be that something in your system is a bottleneck. Not necessary the CPU. Could be anything really.

Short Rant.
Motherboards are often overlooked as a bottleneck both by DIY pc builders and vendors. Since not many care what board they have it’s one of the components used to cut cost. Problem imo the board is pretty much the street on which all the data has to travel, from and to the main components. If your streets sucks traffic gets slowed down.

CPU isnt exactly a ‘latest’ item either, its a 2012 model and its a server CPU. Ofcourse it will bottleneck your system. I would suggest to resell the CPU and get an i5 or i7 (or even AMD if you are low on cash)…

(Ghosthree3) #15

Not really that easy. A replacement i5/i7 would almost certainly require a mobo replacement, and an AMD CPU - disgusting - definitely would. So short on cash really becomes a different story here.

Also it may not even be his issue, I’d be willing to bet that it was, but there’s a chance there’s some other hardware/software interfering as well.

gotta agree with Ghosty, my Q8200 gets 70 -100

there is my cpu passmark benchmark, if anyone wants to see any other part of it let me know

Im just confused as to why you have Xeon. I thought those were for servers? Did you buy your computer of a friend or something? I am 90% sure that’s the bottleneck.

i am sitting here with an AMD FX 8320, and a GTX 660, I get FPS lag in TF2 and DB. AMD CPUs are not good for gaming, flat out. Even though I just overclocked mine to 4.5 GHz, I doubt the performance will increase much.

(PenguinHorde) #20

@extravagentbypass didnt buy the cpu only for gaming, figured it would play games good, but bought it for 3d modeling.
