Fps drop with too many people in the lobby and/or when an enemy appears on the screen

(Sterling) #1

Specs:
i7 2620M 2.7GHz
Intel HD Graphics 3000
RAM 8Gb DDR3

All drivers up to date, HPET disabled (slightly better performance than with it enabled). Tried using an fps config, but the results are the same. Was working fine for me before the patch that disabled the killparticles console command, but that’s just for reference (back then it worked fine, even with particles).

Any help would be appreciated. If I missed something in the post, let me know.

I have gotten into the habit of Verifying the Game files in steam whenever there is an update/patch/hotfix, and also disabling the steam overlay as this fixes most performance issues for me (and if you look at half the threads in tech support you will see i post this alot xD)

I believe it has something to do with the way the Unreal 3 Engine handles updates or something, not in the most sober state to try and sound smart but give these 2 things a whirl in this post here, report back and let me know if it helps, if not try reinstalling, but make sure to backup your configs first just in case.

EDIT: make a backup of your configs (if you haven’t already) before trying tip #1 in the post i linked, just in case it overrides them.

I’m afraid it didn’t solve much for me (not to say “at all”). Thanks for trying, though.

I am sorry to hear that, just realised you are on a laptop?

Not to sound like im insulting your intelligence (unsure of your IT knowledge so forgive me if these feel like n00b tips to you) but maybe check that you are running high performance mode in the power options, not sure which version of windows you are running but it should be in control panel > power options, then something along the lines of power modes high performance, will make the cpu run 100% all the time (might want to switch it though when running on battery)

Also play around with the intel graphics control panel (I think that is the name my memory is failing me) there should be some “performance” modes/options in there if you look around to help when running games might grant you a small performance boost, or it might do nothing but worth a try.

Above all else all i can suggest is disabling everything that does not need to be running, you can use a program called ccleaner and you can disable annoying services that run in the background without your knowledge (Under Tools > Startup) the only thing that really needs to be running is your antivirus, firewall (if you have one), your graphics control panel and maybe at a push your sound drivers (but they run fine even without the bloatware). Any updater checkers for programs like flash/skype/java etc you can switch off, they notify you regardless of the service that is running, itunes helper can definitely go if you use that and so on so on… Since laptop cpu’s are weaker and tend to get bogged down by extra unnecessary processes that do not need to be running it could potentially be affecting your game.

If i come up with anything solid that isn’t just general tips I will post back here and PM you…

What resolution do you play at by-the-by?
